‘Sanjay Dutt dubbed for ‘Zanjeer’ on phone’: Apoorva Lakhia says he’s ‘was going to jail the next day’

Filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia, who has worked with Sanjay Dutt in films like ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ and ‘Zanjeer’, talked about his equation with the actor in a recent interview. He recalled how Sanjay Dutt recorded lines for ‘Zanjeer’ remake at home before serving his sentence for illegal possession of arms related to the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.

In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Apoorva shared, ‘Sanju sir is amazing. He was going to jail the next day, and he hadn’t completed the dubbing for Zanjeer. He was going to be picked up by the cops at 1:30 the next day, and he called me and said, ‘Bro, I’m really sorry I haven’t done your dubbing. Come to my house tonight and do my dubbing’.’

Apoorva said he visited Sanjay Dutt’s house with his technician and the actor had cleared out the entire bar area to make room.

‘I took my technician. He dubbed for the whole film on a phone. And he was going to jail at 1 in the afternoon. That is the bonding,’ the filmmaker said.

The remake of ‘Zanjeer’ marked Ram Charan’s entry into Bollywood. He played the role of ACP Vijay Khanna, originally played by megastar Amitabh Bachchan, while Sanjay played the role of Sher Khan, which was made famous by veteran actor Pran in the original 1973 film.

The 2013 film ‘Zanjeer’ also starred Priyanka Chopra, Prakash Raj, Atul Kulkarni, and Mahie Gill.
