Saba Azad reveals how relationship with Hrithik Roshan affected her work life, slams patriarchal mindset

Saba Azad, a singer, actor and voice-over artist, recently shared that she was deprived of work-related opportunities because of who she was dating. Taking to Instagram stories, Saba, who has been in a relationship with Hrithik Roshan, revealed that she didn't have a job as a voice-over artist for almost 2 years as a director presumed she wouldn't need such a job after dating the Bollywood heartthrob. Now that Saba has returned to the recording studio, she took the opportunity to slam the patriarchal and regressive mindset.

Sharing a picture of herself from the recording studio, she wrote, "Back in my natural habitat – recording a VO…after more than 2 yrs!!!???" She recalled how, at one point in time, she would do 6-7 voice-overs in a month, but suddenly the tables turned for her and she suddenly stopped getting work. This happened despite her never hiking her fees, she added. Later she shared stories with long texts wherein she mentioned that she has not been getting work for the past 2 years.

Though, Saba did not mention the name of the director with whom she worked regularly, but said that his reply left her shocked. “Well, you can imagine what was implied... He didn’t think I would do a job like a VO given where you are in life, ie who I am dating.” She also calls him ‘super progressive, chill’ person.

She continued, “Are we really still living in the dark ages where we assume a woman in a relationship with a successful partner no longer has to put food on her own table?? Or pay her rent and bills? or take pride in her work and take care of herself and her family??? What kind of an archaic assumption to make (sic)??”

“So I basically lost a whole career that I absolutely loved and appreciated cause people thought I didn't need to work anymore??? This is sadly a one dimensional patriarchal and regressive mindset (sic),” she wrote.

She concluded, “For the uninitiated, when two strong independent individuals come together they don't give up their identities or this lives and careers to do so. They hold on to their individuality and share from a place of freedom and strength. Losing a whole career because of someone else's presumptuous ignorance really hurts. So again, no I haven't quit, all ye makers of ads- I still do VOs. So pls for the love of god undo your assumptions and let's get recording already (sic).”

Hrithik and Saba's dating rumours first surfaced in 2022 when the couple was seen holding hands while taking a stroll in the city. While Roshan was earlier married to Sussanne Khan, Saba Azad was dating Imad Khan.
