‘RRR’ becomes the third highest-grossing Indian film in Japan, beats Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’

SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, was released in Japan on October 21. The magnum opus has overtaken Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’ to become the third highest-grossing Indian film in Japan. ‘RRR’ released on 209 screens and 31 Imax screens across 44 cities and prefectures in the country, and earned JPY 180 million in just 17 days.

The lifetime earnings of ‘3 Idiots’ in Japan is JPY 170 million.

Superstar Rajnikanth starrer ‘Muthu’, which released 24 years ago in Japan, remains the highest-grossing Indian film of all time in the country with a box office earning of JPY400 million.

SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali 2’ is at the second spot with a box office collection of JPY300 million.
Last month, director SS Rajamouli visited Japan along with stars Ram Charan and Jr NTR to promote their film.

‘RRR’, set in the 1920s pre-independent era, is based on the lives of two well-known revolutionaries – Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem.

‘RRR’ grossed over Rs. 1000 crore worldwide and it has earned massive praise from the audience as well as critics.
