Ranbir Kapoor recalls father Rishi Kapoor’s rude behaviour towards fans; talks about Alia Bhatt and Raha

Actor Ranbir Kapoor, in a recent interview with entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath, revealed that he has studied the failures of many Kapoor family members. He also shared how his late father, Rishi Kapoor's rude behavior towards fans inspired him to be more approachable. This approach has earned him appreciation from both colleagues and fans.

Ranbir recalled observing his relatives experience success and failure, and opined, ‘I have realized this very early on because I have grown up in a film family and I have seen so many successful people. But at the same time, I have seen so many failures, too. My family has generations of successful actors and those who have failed. I know why they failed. I studied them. I was noticing it from a very young age.’

The actor recounted how Rishi Kapoor would often be rude to fans requesting autographs and pictures, bluntly saying, ‘No, I am not interested in doing that!’ The actor remembered seeing the fans' disappointment and resolved never to ‘say no to anybody.’

Ranbir explained, ‘I would see the fan's face, filled with disdain and disappointment towards my father. If someone wants a picture with me or an autograph, I'm more than happy to oblige.’

Ranbir Kapoor shared that before the birth of his daughter Raha, he didn't fear death and believed he would die at 71. He also described the overwhelming experience of holding Raha for the first time.

‘Now that I am a father and have a daughter, it's a game-changer. It’s making me question detachment and indifference because I feel like I was just born again. I feel the 40 years of my life that I've lived was another life. I am feeling new emotions, new thoughts... I never feared death,’ Ranbir said during Nikhil Kamath's podcast.

He continued, ‘I always thought that I would die at the age of 71 because I had this obsession with the number 8. I don’t know why I said that. But now I am like that’s too soon. That’s another 30 years. So, all that has changed because of Raha.’

Ranbir Kapoor now wants to live longer and lead a healthier life. He has quit smoking, a habit he picked up at 17 and continued until last year. ‘I started smoking cigarettes at 17, and it became a very nasty habit until I finally quit last year. Becoming a father made me feel very unhealthy,’ he said.

‘Till the time she was born and Alia was pregnant, you imagine it right, you don’t feel it; she is feeling it because the baby is in her. But when she was born and the doctor gave her to me, it’s a feeling you can’t describe. It’s like somebody has taken my heart and put it in my hands. It’s the love of your life, it’s too good. It’s too good. Never felt like that about anybody or anything in life,’ the actor expressed.

Ranbir Kapoor expressed gratitude for Alia's calming presence and her ability to ease his insecurities, especially regarding their daughter Raha. ‘She used to speak in a very loud tone. Growing up, my father's (Rishi Kapoor) tone always rattled me, so she made efforts to change that. It's not easy to change something you've done for 30 years. She instinctively reacts when Raha falls, which sometimes throws me off, but she makes an effort to put me at ease. I hope I can do the same for her, but I don't think I've managed it yet,’ he admitted.
