Priyanka Chopra's mother, Madhu Chopra, claims 'nepotism' is a term created by 'frustrated people'

Priyanka Chopra is known for her candid views on cinema and society, and her mother, Madhu Chopra, also shares her opinions openly. In a recent interview with the YouTube channel Breaking Stereotypes, Madhu addressed the ongoing debate about nepotism in Bollywood, suggesting that the term is often used by those who feel frustrated.

Madhu Chopra explained, "When you bring in talent and merit, you can’t really talk about nepotism. This practice has been part of every industry for generations. As parents, we want to give opportunities to those we care about. It's a natural instinct. However, it is our responsibility to nurture their talent so they truly deserve their place. Ultimately, those without talent won’t last long in the industry. No one will invest in someone just because they are related to someone famous; you must have talent to succeed. I believe nepotism is a term created by people who are frustrated and unable to see the bigger picture."

Priyanka Chopra also recalled a challenging period in 2008 when she faced a series of unsuccessful films. Priyanka expressed her worries about her future, especially because she wasn't a "nepo baby"—a term referring to actors who benefit from family connections in the industry. She recounted a conversation with her mother, who expressed concern about her career as she approached her 30th birthday. Madhu reminded Priyanka that the industry tends to favor younger actors and encouraged her to think of alternative revenue streams to secure her future.

Priyanka shared, "I was really scared when those six movies flopped because I didn’t have the support that comes from being a nepo baby. In Bollywood, many actors get numerous chances because of their family connections, while those who come from outside often struggle without the same backing. You don’t have a relative making a film for you if your last project doesn’t perform well."
