Pakistani Actor Adnan Siddiqui Criticizes Kriti Sanon’s Do Patti Song, Labels It a ‘Sordid Ripoff’

Kriti Sanon's upcoming film Do Patti faces controversy over its remix of a classic Pakistani folk song, sparking debates on cultural sensitivity.

Kriti Sanon is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film 'Do Patti'. This project is not only Kriti's debut as a producer, but it also features her in a dual role for the first time.

Additionally, the film introduces popular TV actor Shaheer Sheikh to the world of feature films, and veteran actror Kajol will be seen playing the role of a cop for the first time in her career.

Despite 'Do Patti' being an OTT release, the film has been widely promoted, with the trailer and songs generating buzz.

However, the film's latest song, “Akhiyaan De Kol,” has sparked controversy. A remix of the classic Pakistani folk song, it features Kriti Sanon in a red leather bodysuit, dancing to fast-paced beats.

The song has drawn criticism for taking too many creative liberties with the original.

Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui voiced his disapproval on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, saying, “Imitation can be flattering, but not when it means tearing apart a classic by a legend. Please show some respect for Reshma jee and the legacy she left behind. Her music deserves to be treated with the dignity it commands, not reduced to just another sordid ripoff.”

Many online users echoed his sentiments, expressing disappointment in the remix. One user commented, “What an obscene way to honour the legend that Reshma ji is. Thank you for speaking up.” However, others defended the adaptation, arguing that the song was legally acquired by the Indian label.

More about the song

“Akhiyaan De Kol” is sung by Shilpa Rao, composed by Tanishk Bagchi, and written by Kausar Munir. Directed by Shashanka Chaturvedi and written by Kanika Dhillon. The film is set to release on Netflix on October 25, 2024.
