Olivia Colman talks about Queen Elizabeth II's legacy, praises King Charles speech

Olivia Colman, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth II in the Netflix series ‘The Crown’ Season 3-4, is still processing the loss of the British monarch. The queen’s death was announced on September, the same day as the beginning of the Toronto International Film Festival. The actor has reacted publicly to the devastating news for the first time and shared her candid feelings with Variety at the prestigious film festival on Sunday.

She said, ‘I wouldn’t know where to begin with that. She made a promise as a young woman and she absolutely kept it with such dignity. We’re all incredibly impressed by what she did.’

Olivia Colman also praised King Charles III’s speech after ascending the throne and said that he did it ‘beautifully’ from a ‘British point of view.’ She added, ‘He did it about love, tolerance and gentleness, and that is what she always wanted and she’s done.’

The Oscar-winning actor continued, ‘From the outside world looking at Great Britain, at the moment, we’ve got some comedy going on at one side — politics — and something so dignified. I felt proud to be British. I think he’s going to do a good job.’

‘The Crown’ paused filming its sixth season in the wake of the Queen’s death. Colman is eager to pass the scepter to another legendary British thespian, Imelda Staunton, who will play the role of Queen Elizabeth II in ‘The Crown’ season 5. She also said that Imelda will be incredible and she is excited to watch her.
