Mahima Chaudhary to Sanjay Dutt: Bollywood stars who bravely battled and overcame cancer

Several Bollywood celebrities have talked about their cancer battles and by sharing their inspiring stories, they have been a motivation for those dealing with the disease. Let us take a look at some of the most popular stars who won over cancer after a brave fight.

Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2020. The actor reportedly got his checkup done due to breathlessness. Since there was water in his lungs, the doctors initially suspected it was pneumonia, but it turned out to be cancer. Director Rakesh Roshan’s doctor helped Sanjay Dutt and due to the prompt medical assistance, he was able to overcome the fatal disease. Sanjay Dutt announced that he won over cancer on his children's 10th birthday.

Kirron Kher

Kirron Kher was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, in 2021. She then talked about the same to Hindustan Times and said that it’s not the ideal situation to be in, but one learns to deal with it and carry on. She recovered after receiving treatment from a good team of doctors at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai

Later, Kirron returned to work and was seen on the show 'India's Got Talent' as a panel judge.

Sonali Bendre

Sonali Bendre was diagnosed with metastatic cancer in 2018. She got treated for the deadly disease in the United States for several months and returned cancer-free. She resumed work after four years as a judge on the reality show ‘DID Li'l Masters’.

Mahima Chaudhry

Mahima Chaudhry, best known for her performance in Subhash Ghai’s 1997 film ‘Pardes’, was diagnosed with breast cancer. According to Indian Express, Mahima said that her treatment lasted for four months in Mumbai, but the journey was ‘difficult’ and that the emotions will stay with her for a while.

Mahima will now be resuming work. She has two films in the pipeline ‘Emergency’ and ‘The Signature’.

Manisha Koirala

Manisha Koirala was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012. She was declared cancer-free by 2015 after a long battle with the deadly disease. Manisha was in the US for six months as a part of her treatment.

Manisha launched her autobiography – ‘Healed: How Cancer Gave Me A New Life’ – in January 2018 in which she opened up about her ordeal with cancer and emerging as a survivor.

After taking a break from work due to cancer, she made her comeback to Bollywood in 2017 with ‘Dear Maya’.
