‘Liger’ director Puri Jagannadh wanted to cast Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role, but there were date issues

Vijay Devarakonda and Ananya Panday starrer ‘Liger’ made headlines over the last few weeks as the team was on a massive promotional spree. The Puri Jagannadh directorial finally released in theatres on August 25. Ahead of the film’s release, in an interview with news agency PTI, the director revealed that Janhvi Kapoor was the first choice for ‘Liger’ as he is a big fan of Sridevi. However, she was unable to be a part of the film due to date issues. Jagannadh said it was Karan Johar who suggested Ananya Pandey's name for the lead role.

He said, 'After listening to the story, he (Karan Johar) suggested Ananya Pandey.'

Puri Jagannadh still hopes to work with Janhvi someday.

The director also talked about the cultural exchange that is happening because of his film ‘Liger’. He said that his film is not just a regional story, but a universal story about the rise of an underdog. He said it can be watched in any language and that’s why they thought of making it as a pan-India movie.

‘Liger’ also stars Ramya Krishna, Ronit Roy, and Vishu Reddy in pivotal roles. Legendary boxer Mike Tyson makes a cameo in the film, which has been produced by Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur, along with Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta.
