Kunal Kemmu’s ‘Madgaon Express’ outperforms Randeep Hooda’s ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’

Kunal Kemmu’s directorial debut ‘Madgaon Express’ and Randeep Hooda’s directorial debut ‘Swantantrya Veer Savarkar’ released on March 22 leading to a close face-off at the box office. While both the films opened to a positive review from the netizens, Kemmu’s buddy comedy is racing ahead in terms of collection.

‘Madgaon Express’ vs ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ box office collection

Kemmu’s film has reportedly minted over ₹1 crore on its opening day. As per Sacnilk.com, ‘Madgaon Express’ made ₹1.5 crore nett on day 1 at the box office in India with an overall 11.08% Hindi occupancy.

The film clashed with Randeep Hooda’s biopic drama based on the life of freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. The film starring Hooda in the role of Savarkar also witnessed a decent start. The film earned ₹1.15 crore nett in India on its opening day, lagging behind the ‘Madgaon Express’.

About ‘Madgaon Express’

The film directed by Kunal Kemmu, who is known for acting in films like ‘Kalyug’, ‘Go Goa Gone’ and ‘Golmaal’, follows the story of three friends desperately looking forward to a Goa trip. However, things go wrong as the trio reach there. Talking about the film, Kemmu told PTI that it was an ode to his first Goa journey.

About ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’

Meanwhile, ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ marks the directorial debut of actor Randeep Hooda. The film portrays the life journey of Savarkar and his contribution to India’s freedom struggle. Besides Hooda, it also stars Ankita Lokhande and Amit Sial in key roles.
