Kareena Kapoor Reflects on Aamir Khan’s Disappointment Over Laal Singh Chaddha

Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan revealed that Aamir Khan was deeply affected after their 2022 film, Laal Singh Chaddha, underperformed at the box office. Speaking during a roundtable for The Hollywood Reporter India alongside actors Vicky Kaushal, Shabana Azmi, Rajkummar Rao, Pratik Gandhi, Kani Kusruti, and Anna Ben, Kareena called the movie "a beautiful and honest film."

Recalling her conversation with Aamir, Kareena shared, "He was shattered. He met me and said, 'Our movie didn’t work. You’ll still talk to me, won’t you?' I told him, 'We are actors, and I am proud you entrusted me with Rupa [her character].'"

Kareena expressed how playing Rupa impacted her career more profoundly than commercial successes. "What Rupa did for me is more meaningful than what a Singham [Again] can achieve," she explained.

When veteran actor Shabana Azmi inquired about this perspective, Kareena elaborated: "The character Advait [Chandan, the director] wrote was beautiful. We didn’t create the film aiming for Rs 500 crore; it was made with heart, and everyone gave their best."

Despite earning critical acclaim, Laal Singh Chaddha faced backlash during its release. The film, an adaptation of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump, managed a modest lifetime collection of ₹61.36 crore in India and ₹133.50 crore globally.
