Kangana Ranaut say's she'll return Padma Shri if proven wrong about freedom comment

As she faces massive flak over her 'freedom' comments, actor Kangana Ranaut defended herself saying that she is ready to return her Padma Shri if someone can enlighten her about what took place in 1947.

Speaking during a Times Now summit, Kangana had said that India attained freedom in 2014, when the Narendra Modi-led government came to power, and described the country’s independence in 1947 as “bheek”, or alms.

In a long Instagram story, Kangana wrote, "1857 was first collective fight for freedom… along with sacrifice of greats like Subhash Chandra Bose, Rani Laxmibai and Veer Savarkar ji, adding 1857 she knows, but which war took place in 1947, she was not aware"

She further wrote, she has worked in a film based on a martyr Rani Laxmi Bai, and extensively researched on the first fight of freedom in 1857. She further asked, why Gandhi let Bhagat Singh die? Why was Netaji killed? Why was the line of partition was drawn by a white man? She wrote, instead of celebrating freedom why did Indians killed each other?"

Kangana Ranaut said she is ready to face consequences. She wrote, about 2014, she specifically said that Indians may have but consciousness and conscience of India was set free in 2014, she said, a dead civilisation came alive and fluttered its wings and is now roaring and soaring high. She further said, for the first time, people can't shame Indians for not speaking English or coming from small towns or using made in India products. She wrote, she articulated everything clearly, but those who have a guilty conscience will feel the burn.

While the Aam Aadmi Party submitted an application to the Mumbai Police demanding a case against her for “seditious and inflammatory” comments, politicians across the spectrum, including BJP MP Varun Gandhi, were among the people who reacted with outrage at her comments.
