Kajol Reflects on Career Breaks and Balancing Family: 'Every Woman Has the Right to Choose'

Kajol reflects on her career as the "least worked" actor, emphasizing the importance of family while announcing her upcoming film Do Patti, premiering on Netflix on October 25.

Kajol Reflects on Career Breaks and Balancing Family: 'Every Woman Has the Right to Choose'

Kajol is a well-known actress in Bollywood, celebrated for her work in many hit films from the 90s. Despite her success, she has often chosen to take long breaks to focus on her family and children. In a recent interview with the Indian Express, Kajol reflected on her career and described herself as the “least worked” actor in the industry.

She shared, “If you look at my filmography, I probably have the fewest films. My mother, Tanuja, and grandmother, Shobhna Samarth, always told me that work is just one part of life, not everything. I took breaks because I wanted to get married and raise my kids. Thankfully, I’m still working and remain relevant.” Kajol humorously added, “I’m grateful that people still have good taste.”

Kajol emphasized that her ability to take breaks wasn’t just due to her family background. “It’s not about legacy; it’s about every woman’s work. Actresses like Nargis and Sharmila Tagore didn’t have a legacy. What I’ve achieved is because of my hard work. Every woman has the right to decide when to take a break, and they can always return if they wish,” she explained.

Kajol's latest project is the upcoming film Do Patti, which marks Kriti Sanon's debut as a producer and Shaheer Sheikh’s entry into Bollywood. In this film, Kajol plays a cop for the first time. Netflix describes Do Patti as a thrilling investigation involving a no-nonsense cop, a dark rivalry between twin sisters, and the complicated man they both love.

Do Patti will premiere on Netflix on October 25. Kajol also has other exciting projects in the pipeline, including Sarzameen with Ibrahim Ali Khan and Maharagni – Queen of Queens, where she stars alongside Prabhu Deva and Naseeruddin Shah.
