Independence Day 2022: Some of the best patriotic films of last five years

Independence Day 2022 : India will be celebrating its 75th Independence Day this year. Here’s a look at a few movies that give you goosebumps and strengthen the feeling of patriotism.

Sardar Udham (2021)

The biographical drama is based on freedom fighter Udham Singh’s life, who was responsible for the assassination of former lieutenant governor of Punjab, Michael O`Dwyer. Sardar Udham murdered O`Dwyer as he and his troops cruelly killed hundreds of people in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar. The film, which starred Vicky Kaushal in titular role, won him the IIFA Award for Best Actor.

Shershaah (2021)

The biographical war film narrates the story of Param Vir Chakra awardee Captain Vikram Batra. The Indian soldier became a household name during the 1999 Kargil War as he chased the Pakistani soldiers out of Indian Territory with his unflinching courage. The film starred Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani in lead roles.

Bhuj: The Pride of India (2021)

The film, starring Ajay Devgn, is set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. It is about Indian Air Force Squadron leader Vijay Karnik, then in-charge of the Bhuj Air Force Base, who with the help of 300 local women, reconstructed the damaged landing strip in 72 hours.

Major (2022)

The biographical action film is based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who fought against the terrorists during the 2008 attacks at Mumbai’s Taj Palace Hotel and was eventually killed. Adivi Sesh, Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala played the lead role in the film, which was produced by actor Mahesh Babu under his studio G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment, in a collaboration with Sony Pictures International Productions and A+S Movies.

Raazi (2018)

The action-thriller, directed by Meghna Gulzar, featured Alia Bhatt as an undercover RAW agent, Sehmat Khan. An adaptation of Harinder Sikka's novel ‘Calling Sehmat’, the film narrates the story of Indian Research and Analysis Wing agent who is married into a family of military officers in Pakistan to get valuable information to India.

Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019)

The Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam starrer is based on the 2016 surgical strike executed by the Indian Army on suspected militants who attacked an army base in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir. The film had a successful run in theatres for over 10 weeks across India and it went on to become the 10th highest grossing Hindi film in history.

Kesari (2019)

Starring Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra, the film is based on a true story of the Battle of Saragarhi in which an army of 21 Sikhs fought against 10,000 Afghans in 1897.
