Sunny Deol Birthday : Actor-politician Sunny Deol is celebrating his 66th birthday today. He was the most-loved action heroes of Bollywood in the 90s. Son of veteran actor Dharmendra, Sunny made his Bollywood debut with movie ‘Betaab’ in 1983. He then went on to star in some of the most successful movies of the eighties and nineties.

‘Ghayal’ (1990)

The action-drama marked Rajkumar Santoshi’s directorial debut. Sunny portrayed the role of a young boxer, who was framed for his brother’s murder and sent to jail. However, he befriends three convicts and sets out to seek revenge against crooked businessman Balwant Rai, portrayed by Amrish Puri. This box-office hit earned the actor National Film Award – Special Mention.

The film also starred Meenakshi Sheshadri, Om Puri, and Amrish Puri in key roles.

‘Damini’ (1993)

The Rajkumar Santoshi directorial starred Sunny alongside Meenakshi Seshadri and Rishi Kapoor. The crime drama narrates the story of a woman who fights against the injustices in society and finds support in a lawyer, played by Sunny Deol, who helps her get justice. The film became the sixth highest-grossing of the year.

‘Ghatak: Lethal’ (1996)

The action-thriller, starring Sunny Deol, Meenakshi Seshadri, and Amrish Puri, was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The film, which marked the director’s third collaboration with Sunny Deol, earned ₹440 million worldwide and became the fourth highest-grossing Bollywood film of the year. Sunny Deol portrayed the role of Kashi who stood against the injustice of gangster.

‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ (2001)

The action drama starred Sunny Deol, Amisha Patel, and Amrish Puri in the lead roles. Directed by Anil Sharma, the story of the movie is set around the partition of India. Tara Singh, portrayed by Sunny, falls in love with a Muslim girl Sakina, played by Amisha. Things drastically change as Sakina's father enters their life and makes a plan to separate the two. This film is one of the most-watched Indian films.

‘Border’ (1997)

This epic war action-drama was directed by J. P. Dutta. The film starred Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Tabu, and Pooja Bhatt among others. The story of the film revolved around the real incidents that happened during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, (Battle of Longewala). Sunny Deol played the role of Brigadier Kuldip Singh Chandpuri and received immense praise for his performance.
