Farhan Akhtar to re-release Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Lakshya’ as it clocks 20 years: ‘Come, relive the journey’

Farhan Akhtar announces the re-release of Hrithik Roshan's ‘Lakshya’ on June 21, marking its 20-year anniversary. The announcement read, ‘Come, relive the journey of a film that ignited countless dreams and inspired generations. Celebrating 20 years of Lakshya, back in cinemas on 21st June.’

Fans express excitement

As soon as the announcement was made fans flocked to the comments section to express their excitement.

One person wrote, ‘Farhan needs to direct more movies.’ Another wrote, ‘The best.’ One person wrote, ‘One of your best movies ever… this was way ahead of its time… so inspirational… wonder why we don’t see these kind of movies these days…’ Another added, ‘Can’t wait for this. Congratulations for 20 years.’

About ‘Lakshya’

Released three years after Farhan Akhtar's debut, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, Lakshya faced high expectations but didn't match its predecessor's success. However, it left a lasting impact as a coming-of-age tale set against the backdrop of the fictionalized 1999 Kargil War. Starring Hrithik Roshan, the film hit screens in 2004 and now celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Although Hrithik Roshan starred in the film, he wasn't director Farhan Akhtar's first choice for Lakshya. The role was initially offered to Arjun Rampal, but due to scheduling conflicts, Hrithik stepped in. The movie also featured Preity Zinta, Boman Irani, and Amitabh Bachchan.

Despite a strong cast, ‘Lakshya’ underperformed at the box office, earning just 230 million domestically, and was deemed a 'flop.' However, it has since gained a cult following and is highly appreciated by Hrithik's fans.
