‘Emergency’: Kangana Ranaut directorial postponed again; here’s why

Kangana Ranaut’s much-awaited film ‘Emergency’ has been postponed again. Manikarnika Films announced on May 15 via social media that the release date is delayed due to actor’s commitment to serving the nation, particularly as Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate for Himachal Pradesh's Mandi Lok Sabha seat.

Manikarnika Films released an official statement which read, ‘Our hearts are filled with love filled with love pouring in for our queen Kangana Ranaut. As she prioritises her duty to the nation and her commitment to serve the country, the release date of our much awaited film 'Emergency' has been postponed. We promise to update you soon with a new release date. Thank you for your continued support.’

About the film

Initially slated for June 14, ‘Emergency’ had its release date revealed by Kangana following her attendance at the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya in January this year. Kangana serves as both director and writer for the film. Originally intended for a November 24, 2023 release, scheduling conflicts prompted a postponement.

‘Emergency’ also stars Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik. The film centres on the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, with Kangana portraying the titular role.

Amid her campaign efforts for the Lok Sabha elections, Kangana filed her nomination on May 14. Expressing her sentiments to news agency ANI, she stated, ‘Today I filed my nomination from the Mandi LS seat. It's a matter of pride for me to contest from Mandi... I've found success in Bollywood, and I'm hopeful for success in politics as well.’

Kangana Ranaut was last seen in ‘Tejas’, which had meagre box-office returns. Besides ‘Emergency’, the actor will also reunite with R. Madhavan in a yet untitled physiological thriller film.
