Deepika Padukone talks about her battle against depression, says she was 'suicidal at times’

Deepika Padukone, who is an active advocate of mental health awareness, recently recalled her battle against depression at an event in Mumbai. She talked about how she overcame it with help of medical professionals as well as her family’s support. As per the news agency ANI, the actor said that she felt ‘suicidal at times’. She thanked her mother Ujjala Padukone for recognising the signs and symptoms. She mentioned that she was on a career-high and she would break down for no reason. There were days she was unable to wake up and sleep was an escape for her.
She also revealed how she used to behave differently when her parents used to visit her during her depression phase. She said that she would always put on a brave front that everything is okay.
‘My parents live in Bangalore so every time they visited me, even now when they visit me, I always put on a brave front that everything's okay. You always want to show your parents that you are fine.’ She added.
Earlier, during her appearance in Amitabh Bachchan’s show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati 13', the actor revealed that she was diagnosed with depression in 2014.
To raise awareness about mental health in India, Deepika Padukone has also founded an NGO ‘Live Love Laugh’
