‘Dangal’ actor Zaira Wasim’s father passes away: ‘I request everyone to remember him in your prayers’

Zaira Wasim, former Bollywood actor and Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ co-star, took to Instagram to announce the news of her father’s demise.

‘Zahid Waseem, my father, has passed away. I request everyone to remember him in your prayers and seek Allah’s forgiveness for him. Please pray that Allah forgives his shortcomings, makes his grave a place of comfort, protects him from any punishment, grants him ease in the Hereafter and bestows upon him the highest level of Jannah and grant him Maghfirah,’ she announced.

She shared a sweet picture with her father and penned a heartfelt note for him. Zaira requested her followers to remember him in their prayers.

Her note read, 'Verily the eyes shed tears and the heart grieves, but we will not say except that which is pleasing to our Lord.' My father, Zahid Wasim, has passed away. Please remember him in your prayers and ask Allah to forgive his shortcomings, make his grave peaceful, protect him from its torment, ease his journey from here ahead. May he be called to an easy accounting and be granted the highest level of Jannah and Maghrirah. Indeed, we belong to Allah, and Indeed, to Him, we shall return.’

Who is Zaira Wasim?

For those unaware, the actor appeared in notable films such as ‘Dangal’ with Aamir Khan, the musical-drama ‘Secret Superstar’, and ‘The Sky Is Pink’ starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Farhan Akhtar.

At the 64th National Film Awards, she won the Best Supporting Actress Award. In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, she revealed that her father initially didn't understand the significance of a National Award. ‘It took me 2 hours to explain what a National Award is and he still did not think it was a big deal. But when I was actually there, receiving it, that's when my parents were really proud,’ she shared.

Recalling the moment the award was announced, she said, ‘When it was declared, I was sleeping. I woke up at 2 AM, checked my phone, and saw around 30 missed calls from family and friends, along with congratulatory messages. My cousin called and said, ‘You didn't tell me you got an award,’ and I was like, ‘What award?’ That's when I found out about the National Award. I knew it was a big deal, but I had no idea how it worked. I was with my grandmother in Bombay at the time. She was so excited and panicked about whom to inform first. She called my father.’

In 2019, Wasim announced her retirement from the film industry.
