'Chandu Champion' box office collection day 1: Kartik Aaryan starrer mints Rs 4.75 crore on opening day

Kabir Khan directorial ‘Chandu Champion’ is in theatres and its collection has not met the expectations. The film received a positive response from the audience on social media, however it could collect only Rs 4.75 crore on its opening day.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk.com, the sports biopic starring Kartik Aaryan minted Rs 4.75 crore on its day 1. The film witnessed an overall Hindi occupancy of 16.48% on Friday. Despite the underwhelming collection on day 1, the film might gain momentum on weekend with positive word of mouth and Monday being a holiday.

Kartik Aaryan’s lowest opener

The film turned out to be Kartik’s lowest opening film in almost a decade. His last film, ‘Satyaprem Ki Katha’ had made almost double the amount than his recent release on day 1. His first film post pandemic, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’, had also earned Rs 14.11 crore.

Despite the lower than expected box office collection, Kartik Aaryan’s performance has received praises from the audience and critics. His transformation into the role of Murlikant Petkar, has impressed everyone.

‘Munjya’ stands strong

‘Chandu Champion’ is also facing a tough competition from Munjya, which stayed steady on second Friday. The film raked in Rs 3.35 crore on June 14, taking its overall collection to Rs 38 crore in India so far.

About ‘Chandu Champion’

Chandu Champion’ depicts the remarkable journey of Murlikant Petkar, India’s first Paralympic gold medallist. To portray a freestyle swimmer convincingly in the film, Kartik underwent intense training, reducing his weight from 90 kgs to 72 kgs and his body fat from 39% to 7%. Recently, the actor shared a viral before-and-after transformation picture on social media, showcasing his journey from an 'insomniac' to a 'fitness enthusiast'.
