BAFTAs accidentally announce Carey Mulligan as supporting actress winner instead of Kerry Condon

The BAFTAs 2023 were held in London on Sunday night and there was an awkward mix-up at the event as Carey Mulligan was incorrectly named winner of the Best Supporting Actress award. The error happened as last year’s Best Supporting Actor winner, ‘CODA’ star Troy Kotsur introduced the nominees alongside a sign language interpreter.

Kotsur was apparently signing that ‘Banshees of Inisherin’ actor Kerry Condon had won, but the sign language interpreter mistakenly said the name Carey Mulligan. After a couple of seconds, he quickly said: ‘Kerry Condon…Kerry Condon.’

Kerry Condon then took to the stage to accept her award. ‘Oh my God, thanks a million, really. This means so much to me,’ she told the audience.

Carey Mulligan had been nominated for her role as New York Times reporter Megan Twohey in ‘She Said.’

This mix-up moment was edited out of the final broadcast.
