Three films of Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Asha Parekh will be screened as a retrospective at the International Film Festival of India. Spanish filmmaker Carlos Saura will also be felicitated with the lifetime achievement honour at the event.

Asha Parekh movies will be screened at 53rd IFFI; Carlos Suara to be honoured

The 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India is all set to take place from November 20 to 28 at Panaji in Goa. Three films of Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Asha Parekh will be screened as a retrospective at the upcoming film gala. Spanish filmmaker Carlos Saura will also be felicitated with the lifetime achievement honour at the event.


National Film Development Corporation of India managing director Ravinder Bhakar said that Asha Parekh suggested three of her favourite movies - ‘Teesri Manzil’, ‘Do Badan’ and 'Kati Patang’. He is also the director of the National Film Archive of India (NFAI).


Spanish director Carlos Suara will be honoured with the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the IFFI. Eight of his films, including La Caza del Conejo and Ana Y Los Lobos, will be screened at the event.
Five Manipuri films, including Ishanou (The Chosen One) and Ratan Thiyam – the Man of the Theatre, will also be showcased to mark 50 years of Manipur in cinema.


Kannada film ‘Hadinelentu’, directed by Prithvi Konanur, will open the feature section of the Indian Panorama, the flagship component of the IFFI. ‘The Show Must Go On’ by Divya Cowasji will kickstart the non-feature film section. Pan Nalin’s Gujarati film ‘Chhello Show’ (The Last Film Show), India’s official entry to the Oscars in the best international film category, and Madhur Bhandarkar’s India Lockdown will also have special screenings at the festival.


Other popular films like ‘Drishyam 2’, ‘Goldfish’, ‘Bhediya’ will be premiered.


According to Information and Broadcasting Secretary Apurva Chandra, the 53rd edition of the festival is important as it is the first chapter to be organised in-person after the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic.
