Anurag Kashyap reveals his daughter Aaliyah disliked Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal' : Check out why

Anurag Kashyap's daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap, voiced her disapproval when her father posted a photo with Sandeep Reddy Vanga and praised the film 'Animal'. In a recent interview, the director discussed this incident.

In an interview with YouTuber Janice Sequiera, Anurag disclosed how Aaliyah confronted him about his actions. ‘My daughter called me out. She hated 'Animal,' he admitted. Aaliyah was upset when Anurag posted a photo with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, following their meeting, and praised him. Anurag revealed that even his friends criticised him for endorsing Vanga after Aaliyah voiced her concern.

'They all came home and asked me 10,000 questions. And I was like, ‘Tum baki sab toh chhod do, picture ka naam kya hail? Animal. It’s not called ‘Human’. Why did the film become difficult? Because everyone’s favourite Ranbir Kapoor played the role,’ he said.

During an earlier podcast hosted by Aaliyah, called ‘Young, Dumb & Anxious,’ she had openly criticised ‘Animal’ as ‘horrible’ and ‘misogynistic.’ She recalled ringing her father immediately after watching it to vent her feelings, to which Anurag also agreed. However, Aaliyah was taken aback when she saw her father's Instagram post promoting Vanga, the same filmmaker she had criticised just a week earlier.

Anurag reflected on his own experiences of being a controversial filmmaker, connecting with Vanga's current situation. ‘You were much younger when your father was cancelled for his films. After 'Dev D' came out, I was cancelled by a lot of people. I was the untouchable guy. People said, ‘What a misogynistic film!’ 'Gangs of Wasseypur' was also met with a similar fate even though my characters had agencies. I have often seen people isolating someone, attacking someone and that is not the way to be,' he added.

Regarding his meeting with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Anurag explained, ‘I met him, I like him. I’ve had my own questions and wanted to discuss his film. We had a long five-hour conversation, and I genuinely appreciate the guy.’

Throughout the interview, Anurag emphasised the importance of empathy in the film industry, citing his own past experiences.
