Anand Pandit Announces 'Trishul' sequel ahead of Amitabh Bachchan's 82nd Birthday, read details

Ahead of Amitabh Bachchan’s 82nd birthday, producer Anand Pandit has announced plans for a sequel to the iconic 1978 film 'Trishul'. The film, directed by the late Yash Chopra, featured Bachchan as an illegitimate child seeking revenge against his father, capturing the struggles of ambition and family dynamics. Anand Pandit, who hails from Gujarat and moved to Mumbai to pursue a career inspired by Bachchan’s character, sees this sequel as a personal tribute to the legendary actor.

“I have watched Trishul almost 60 times, and it impacted me deeply when it was released. The story of a man, who comes with nothing to a city and makes it big in the construction business, inspired me immensely,” shares Anand. It will be my tribute to the man, who began to influence my life even before he met me in person. Trishul was a cinematic masterpiece and it was Amitji’s performance that motivated me to move to Mumbai, he added.

While the project is still in its early stages, Anand Pandit has yet to discuss it with Bachchan or the original creators, he has the storyline in place and is excited about the possibilities. He added, “Trishul 2 will narrate how life unfolded for Vijay after being accepted in the Gupta family. It would be fascinating to find out if he lived happily ever after with Geeta, if his own family grew, and whether he was able to heal his wounds.”

This would mark Pandit’s fifth collaboration with Bachchan, following projects like 'Sarkar 3' and 'Chehre'.

In a special birthday episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16, Aamir Khan and his son Junaid joined Bachchan to celebrate his birthday. During the episode, Aamir read some lines from 'Need Ka Nirmaan Phir', a book by Bachchan’s father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, which reflects on the joy of welcoming Amitabh into the world.
