'Aarya' star Sushmita Sen on being a 90s heroine: 'we weren’t not even part of hoardings'

Sushmita Sen is back on our television screens with the second season of 'Aarya' and she's getting rave reviews for her performance on the show from fans and critics.

In a recent interview, the actress opened up about her experiences of being a 90s heroine in Bollywood and the constant hero-worship in the film industry. Sushmita was asked how big is it to make a woman the hero in 'Aarya', especially in an industry where heroes are mostly played by men.

To this, Sushmita said, in the 90s when she first started acting, half the time women weren’t even part of the hoardings and posters, let alone be an author-backed role.

She added that at that time it would be something of a big deal if one said that a heroine is carrying a film on her shoulders. She admitted that promoting a film with the women characters would not work, given limited budget and marketing.

Sushmita said, now when she sees hoardings of 'Aarya' all over the city, she feels it a progressive step, and thanked director Ram Madhvani for breaking that barrier, that Aarya is the story of a woman.
