Aanand L Rai reveals why he 'failed miserably' with Akshay Kumar's Raksha Bandhan

Filmmaker Aanand L Rai has opened up about the failure of his film ‘Raksha Bandhan’, starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar. In a recent interview with the news agency PTI, he said that he was 'wrong in differentiating between the audiences' and he should have focused more on the story rather than selecting the audience to whom he wants to cater. He also added that he 'went too smart' with ‘Raksha Bandhan’.

‘This is my learning. We are battling the same thing and trying to find out what story will engage the audience at this moment and in this phase. Post-pandemic we have failed the audience with that. Maybe, I went too smart with Raksha Bandhan. I was trying to put it in a bracket and that's wrong,’ he said.

Aanand L. Rai said there was a strategy that failed. He mentioned that he has always been gutsy and has never played safe, but subconsciously he tried to do that with ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and failed miserably.

‘Raksha Bandhan’ released in August this year. The film also starred Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna and Smrithi Srikanth. The film earned around ₹37.50 crore in week one of its release.
