5G case: Delhi HC reduces fine against Juhi Chawla from ₹20 lakh to ₹2 lakh

The Delhi High Court on Thursday reduced the costs imposed on actor Juhi Chawla from ₹20 lakh to ₹2 lakh over her plea against 'untested' implementation of 5G telecom technology in India.

The court also expunged remarks against Juhi Chawla by a single-judge bench and said the actor didn't take up the 5G issue in a frivolous and casual manner.

The division bench allowed Chawla's appeal and set aside the single judge's June 4, 2021 order by which Juhi Chawla and two others' suit was dismissed with the observations that it was ‘defective’, ‘abuse of process of law’ and filed for ‘gaining publicity.

Chawla had filed an appeal against a single-bench order which in June 2021 had dismissed her suit against the introduction of 5G technology in India.

The single bench, in the order dismissing the suit, had said it was filed to gain publicity and imposed a cost of ₹20 lakh on the three plaintiffs, including Chawla, for ‘waste of judicial time’.
