SpiceJet penalised: DGCA orders 50% flights to be grounded for 8 weeks

SpiceJet to restrict flight departures to 50 per cent for the next eight weeks following a number of technical snags.

SpiceJet got a big strike from the regulator as the DGCA directed SpiceJet to restrict flight departures to 50 per cent for the next eight weeks following a number of technical snags.

The DGCA order concluded by saying that the airlines will now work under increased surveillance. "During these eight weeks period, the airline shall be subjected to "Enhanced Surveillance" by DGCA. Further decision in the matter shall be taken thereafter.".

Spicejet airlines had reported at least eight technical malfunction incidents in 18 days.

SpiceJet however reassured its flyers that there will be "absolutely no impact" on its flight operations after DGCA order. There will be no flight cancellation as consequence of the DGCA order, said the airline.
