Sharing your Netflix password is now going to cost you soon

Netflix is cracking down on sharing of passwords as it says it may start charging a fee on users that 'distribute' their passwords. In a news release posted to its website on Wednesday, the streaming giant announced that it will begin testing ways to make users sharing an account outside of the household to pay for the additional members.

The streaming company's terms of service say an account holder, "may not be shared with individuals beyond your household," a rule often flouted by subscribers. The definition of 'household' however is ambigious and the password sharing is rampant among users.

In a blog post titled “Paying to Share Netflix Outside Your Household,” the OTT provider said the test run of new prices to "add an extra member" on standard and premium plans will take place first in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru.
