#RejectZomato trends after chat support executive asks Tamil Nadu customer to learn 'national language Hindi'

#RejectZomato trends as chat image asking to learn Hindi goes viral

Hours after Zomato faced strong criticism on Twitter after a customer took to microblogging site to claim that the company's customer service executive told him that he 'should know Hindi', the food delivery app issued a public apology for the incident in Tamil and English and termed the incident as 'unacceptable' and stressing that it stood for diversity

However, in a series of tweets, Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal said the company was reinstating the employee.

#RejectZomato was a top trend on social media platforms as Netizens reacted to a viral image allegedly of a Zomato support staff asking a customer to learn Hindi as it is 'our national language'.

The unverified image shows a chat between Zomato's customer service personnel and a Tamil Nadu based customer seeking a refund. The Zomato support staff said they would not be able to get a refund as they were facing a language barrier while speaking to the local delivery outlet. When the irate customer told the support staff that they need to know how to communicate in a local language if services are offered by Zomato in Tamil on the app, the employee responded by saying that "Hindi is our national language and everyone should know a little bit of it."
