Most outsourced coders of India will lose jobs to AI in 2 years, says Stability AI CEO

Stability AI CEO Emad Mostaque has predicted that AI will wipe out most of the outsourced programmers in India in two years. Mostaque told UBS analysts that AI impact would make it possible to create a software with fewer people. He also went on to say that the AI models are like talented graduates.

“I think that it affects different types of jobs in different ways. If you’re doing a job in front of a computer, and no one ever sees you, then it’s massively impactful, because these models are like really talented grads”, Mostaque said.

He also mentioned that the impact of AI will be felt differently in different places. For instance, France will face lesser impact due to the presence of strong labour laws. He went on to say that in India the situation will be different where outsourced programmers upto level three will be gone in the next year or two.

In India, Mostaque said, “outsourced coders up to level three programmers will be gone in the next year or two, whereas in France, you’ll never fire a developer.”

As per Bloomberg, Over 5 million software developers are in India who are most probably under threat from the impacts of advanced AI tools like ChatGPT. India is home to many outsourcing firms whose customers include Silicon Valley tech giants, Wall Street banks, airlines and retailers.
