Google sacks 20 more employees for protesting against Israel project: Report

Days after Google fired 28 employees in New York and California for protesting against a project with the Israeli govt , the tech giant has fired more than 20 employees. Meanwhile, The Verge quoted spokesperson of activist group No Tech for Apartheid, Jane Chung and said that Google has fired non-participating bystanders. With this the total number of employees fired for staging protests has now gone up to almost 50

The employees had been protesting against the firm's involvement in Project Nimbus, a substantial cloud computing deal with the Israeli government. The contract is valued at $1.2 billion and shared with Amazon. The employees of both the companies have been critical of the project amid the conflict in the Middle East

Meanwhile, spokesperson of activist group "No Tech for Apartheid," Jane Chung has noted that Google has fired “non-participating bystanders”. With this the total number of employees fired for staging protests has now gone up to almost 50, claimed The Verge.

Earlier Google's head of global security Chris Rackow had issued a firm memo stating such behavior violates multiple company policies and would not be tolerated, indicating that Google might take further action if necessary.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai also warned employees saying that the company has an open culture where debate and discussions are encouraged but there are limitations to the same.

“We have a culture of vibrant, open discussion that enables us to create amazing products and turn great ideas into action. That's important to preserve", he said.

"This is a business, and not a place to act in a way that disrupts coworkers or makes them feel unsafe, to attempt to use the company as a personal platform, or to fight over disruptive issues or debate politics,” he added.
