Google and Amazon ask senior staff to resign willingly and get a one year severance package

Since last year, the tech sector has witnessed massive layoffs globally, which resulted in over 1.6 lakh employees at 570 tech companies, losing their jobs. This includes giants like Google, Meta, and Amazon announcing job cuts.

After the massive layoffs, tech companies are still looking to further reduce their headcount.

Labour laws make it nearly impossible to fire individuals in some nations without first consulting employee interest groups. Companies are obligated by law to consult with these councils before implementing layoffs, which involves a potentially time-consuming process of information gathering, talks, and the possibility of appealing.

Due to this, major companies like Amazon and Google are reportedly inviting staff members to voluntarily resign.

Amazon is even resorted to handing some of its senior managers a one-year severance package in exchange for their voluntary resignation. The report also stated that the e-commerce behemoth is providing 'leave to departing employees so their shares can vest and be paid out as bonuses.'

Amazon is dismissing probationary staff in Germany as well, although they are being given the chance to voluntarily resign, as reported by ET Now.
