With Inflation being the biggest elephant in the room to fending off further attacks on the rupee, EJBIZ explains what are the key factors India’s central bank is expected to deliver in its main policy rate on Aug 5th: 

US Fed has made another aggressive rate hike by 75 basis points in the latest policy to tame inflation. RBI is also expected to hike the rate for the third consecutive time. Experts predict a rate hike of 25-50 basis points from RBI in this upcoming policy. 
As the meeting comes at a time when global central banks are tightening the monetary policy and raising interest rates, many experts now believe that the RBI is more likely to go for a 25-35 basis points (BPS) increase in policy rate than a 50 bps hike.
Currently, inflation is at 7.01% in June and has been above RBI's comfort zone of 6% for the sixth-consecutive month.
While the rupee has hit a series of lows in recent months, dropping past 80 to a dollar in July, it has pulled back amid signs of returning foreign fund inflows. It is advisable that RBI should keep a tab on interest rate differentials with the US to curb any build-up of speculative pressures on the INR, triggered by low implied yields that reduces the cost of shorting rupee.

Fed Rate Hike : The Federal Reserve raised rates by yet another 75 bps and kept the door open for a another hike. The markets however rallied sharply in the US despite the rate hike as Fed Chief Jerome Powell&nbsp;said he does not think the US is currently in a recession. With 75 bps done again, it takes the cumulative June-July increase to 150 basis points, which is the steepest move up since the early 1980s.&nbsp;

The International Monetary Fund cut its global growth projections for 2022 and 2023, calling the world’s economic outlook “gloomy and more uncertain.“A tentative recovery in 2021 has been followed by increasingly gloomy developments in 2022,” the report said. The Washington-based institute now expects the world economy to grow 3.2% in 2022 before slowing to a 2.9% GDP rate in 2023. This marks a 0.4-0.7% cut in estimates. Worsening growth prospects in the U.S., China and India drove the IMF’s downward revisions.India's economy is now projected to grow by 7.4% in FY23, 80 basis points lower than IMF’s April projection of 8.2%. India’s FY24 growth forecast has also been cut by 80 basis points to 6.1%."For India, the revision reflects mainly less favourable external conditions and more rapid policy tightening," the report said.

After banning wheat exports in May, the government has now decided to put in place a new approval framework for wheat flour and other related products like maida, semolina (rava / sirgi), wholemeal atta and resultant atta. 
Exporters of wheat flour would now need approval of the inter-ministerial committee for shipments of atta. The new requirement will be applicable from July 12.
"Export policy of wheat flour (atta) remains free but export shall be subject to recommendation of inter-ministerial committee on export of wheat," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.

Celebrating the World MSME Day we look at the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) of India that are truly the backbone of the economy.  MSME’s in India contribute nearly 8% of the country's GDP, approximately 45 % of manufacturing output, and 40% of export.With 6.3 crore enterprises registered with the MSME ministry, it is only second to China in size. MSMEs also created about 600,000 new jobs this past year, besides employing over 110 million people.Even as the industry grows rapidlly the challenges are also rising. Even though access to credit has improved dramatically, the problems around the supply chain are new.The critical step to boost Indian MSMEs is to connect them to the global markets through trade deals and agreements which the government is hoping to achieve via varied trade agreements with vital partners.

As India celebrates its 75th year of independence, we look at the economy report card for the world's largest democracy. India is holding the mantle of the world's fastest growing economy coming out of the pandemic but that is not only glory the subcontinent has to be celebrate-:

Growth: Major forecasters, including the RBI, have put the GDP growth estimates for the current fiscal at over 7 per cent, higher than the growth rate of any major economy.  In comparison China is expected to merely grow at pace of 3.3%, the lowest level in more than 40 years. 
Forex Reserves: In a world of global turmoil a war chest of forex reserves has made India shine amongst faltering neighbours. From being perennially starved of foreign exchange and on the brink of bankruptcy in 1991 to now holding the fourth-highest stock of reserves which stands at $600 billion on average. 
India's Techade: Solidifying its place as a software outsourcing powerhouse exports are now nearly to the tune of $200 billion. 
Climate Champions: Despite covid setback the economy is racing ahead with new shades of green. Keeping on track with net zero ambtion - India has finalised that 50% of its electricity to come from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman hit out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for giving a "perverse twist" to the debate on freebies, saying the AAP leader's comments are an attempt to create fears in the minds of the poor.
A day after Kejriwal joined the debate on freebies calling for a referendum on spending taxpayers' money on healthcare and education, Sitharaman said that spending on these two has never been called or classified as freebies since Independence and to drag them now into the debate is to give a perverse twist.
"Delhi Chief Minister has given perverse twist to the debate on freebies. Health and education have never been called freebies," she told reporters here.
"No Indian government has ever denied them since Independence. So, by classifying education and health as freebies, Kerjiwal is trying to bring in a sense of worry and fear in minds of poor," she said.
In recent days, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hit out competitive populism of extending "rewaris" (freebies) which are not just wastage of taxpayers' money but also an economic disaster that could hamper India's drive to become Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant).
His comments were seen directed at parties like AAP which have in the run-up to assembly elections in states like Punjab promised free electricity and water, among other things.
Sitharaman said there has to be a genuine debate on the issue and everyone should participate in it.

Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter to call it a 'dangerous bill'. Many power engineers protested the Bill across the country, in states like Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Rajasthan. Labour unions and the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella organisation that was at the centre of the Farmers’ Protests is also protesting the proposed amendments. What are the main points of opposition 

The govt did not hold consultations with all concered before tabling 
Would hurt government discom balance sheets further 
Protestors claim that only government discoms or distribution companies will have universal power supply obligations
Private operators will choose to be available only in 'profitable' areas 
 Profit-making areas will be snatched from government discoms
Given central govt authority to allow private distributors to use state built networks
Fear that amendments leave the door open for power subsidy for farmers to be taken away eventually
