Despite 10% rise in sweet prices due to increased rates in besan and edible oil, the sales of Jalebi- Fafda Gathiya went up by about 10% compares to last year

Dussehra Celebration: Amdavadis have taken the Dussehra celebration to the next level by showing their unwavering love for Fafda Gathiya and Jalebi. Even the 10% price increase failed to discourage them from indulging in their favourite festive treats.

Fafda & Jalebi sale

As per a report by TOI, long queues and bustling crowds were seen at farsan stores, mandaps and stalls well before midnight. People from all parts of Ahmedabad flocked to shops selling snacks and sweets resulting in the sale of Fafda and Jalebi worth Rs 175 crore. As per the report about 8.4 lakh Kg each of Fafda and Jalebi were sold.

Prices went up as much as 10% due to price rise in besan and edible oil. Fafda was priced between Rs 750 to Rs 1,300 per kg, while jalebi prices rose from Rs 900 to Rs 1,000 per kg compared to the previous year. Despite this, the sale went up by about 10% compared to last year.

Food delivery apps

The huge demand lead to long queues in front of the shops. As per the TOI report that quotes shop owners, starting as early as 6 am, queues of 80-90 people were formed, with customers patiently waiting for their turn.

This had discouraged some customers from visiting the stores, leading to a shift towards ordering through app-based food delivery platforms.
