Amazon's AI push; unveils AI tool Healthscribe

Amazon competes with Microsoft & Google, unveiling AI tools AWS Healthscribe for healthcare and Bedrock for diverse AI models

Amazon's AI push; unveils AI tool Healthscribe

Amazon's E-commerce empire is making significant strides in the artificial intelligence (AI) domain, aiming to compete head-on with industry giants such as Microsoft and Google.

Their cloud division has been testing AI offerings with thousands of customers, and on Wednesday, they unveiled a new tool geared towards conversational customer service agents and healthcare technology.

The new AI tool, AWS Healthscribe, is Amazon's latest attempt to charm the healthcare industry. Its purpose is to facilitate the development of apps that can transcribe and analyze conversations between doctors and patients. Reuters reported that a major healthcare player, 3M unit, is already planning to utilize this technology for clinical documentation.

Sony, Ryanair, and Sun Life are among the companies that have already taken part in trials for Amazon's Bedrock service. Launched in April, this service is designed to empower cloud customers to create apps utilizing a diverse array of AI models. It's Amazon's strategic move to tackle rivals like Microsoft and Google, both of which have heavily invested in generative AI technology.

Microsoft boasts its AI chatbot, Bing Chat, while also backing the popular sensation ChatGPT through its investment in OpenAI. Google, on the other hand, has Bard, its own generative AI-based chatbot, with plans to incorporate this cutting-edge technology at various levels.

Leveraging its position as the leading revenue-generating cloud provider, Amazon intends to offer businesses a broader range of AI models than its competitors. The company plans to democratize access to Amazon Bedrock soon, although an exact date has not been disclosed yet.
