Hindu Rashtra Dal claim responsibility for JNU attack; fight against anti-national activities

A video of one Bhupendra Tomar aka Pinky Bhaiyya President of the Hindu Rashtra Dal has surfaced on social media where he is shown claiming responsibility for the JNU attack. He calls JNU a "communist adda" and vows further attacks on those participating in what he thinks are anti-national activities. A few days ago many students and teachers were severely injured in a direct confrontation between scores of masked goons and JNU students in Delhi. In videos circulating widely, masked goons wielding batons and rods can be seen entering hostels and engaging in vandalism.

Anti-CAA protests: ‘Janatar Ninad’ programme by student bodies held in Moran 

On Monday, thousands of protesters walked down the street at Nahazar Naharani near Moran to stage their protest (Janatar Ninad) against Citizenship Amendment Act 2019. Under the aegis of Khowang AASU Unit and 30 indigenous organizations, the public meeting was attended by AASU vice president Chitranjan Basumatary, All Chutiya Students Union President Khirod Saikia, All Sonowal Kachari Students Union Secretary Budhin Saikia, All Adavasi Students Union Secretary Deben Urang, AJYCP General Secretary Udayan Kumar Gogoi. During the protest, the leaders of the organizations slammed BJP-led Government and their alleged authoritarian regime. It may be mentioned that since the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 was passed by the Parliament of India on 11 December 2019. It amended the Citizenship Act of 1955 by providing a path to Indian citizenship for Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian religious minorities that had fled persecution from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan before December 2014.

KMSS stage sit-in protest against CAA 2019 near Nagaon DC office

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) stage sit-in protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 near Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Office on Tuesday. The protesters also demanded immediate release of KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi and Bir Lachit Sena leader Sringkhol Chaliha. Notably, several organizations including the Artistes Society of Assam, Civil Society groups are being staging protest against the Citizenship law in Assam since past one month. Recently, on Sunday, a massive protest rally was launched by Artistes Society of Assam supported by AASU in Guwahati. The protest was led by singing sensation Zubeen Garg. It may be mentioned that since the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 was passed by the Parliament of India on 11 December 2019. Media interaction held at AGP party office in Guwahati

Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) President Atul Bora on Saturday conducted a media interaction at the party office in Guwahati’s Ambari. 
The meeting was attended by AGP Mahila Parishad and Asom Chatra Parishad (ACP).
Along with AGP party President Atul Bora, AGP working president Keshab Mahanta and senior AGP leader Phani Bhushan Choudhury attended the meeting.



Former BJP State President and Rajya Sabha MP Indramoni Bora passes away at 81

Former BJP State President and Rajya Sabha MP Indramoni Bora passed away at the age of 81 at his residence in Guwahati’s Uzan Bazaar.
Bora had played a key role in strengthening the roots of the party in the northeastern state between 1991 and 2007. He was elected as Assam BJP President in the year 2003.
Meanwhile, State BJP President Ranjeet Dass expressed condolences over the death of the leader. 
“His demise is a great loss for the State BJP family,” said BJP President Ranjeet Dass.

Special NIA Court sent KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi to 14 days Judicial Custody 

The Special NIA Court on Thursday sent Peasant Leader Akhil Gogoi to 14 days Judicial Custody. 
As per reports, NIA demanded an extension of Gogoi’s custody for more 10 days; however, the plea was rejected by the court.
KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi was presented before Special NIA Court on Thursday.
Earlier, a team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched a search operation at the residence of peasant leader and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi in Guwahati.



Fire breaks out near Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati, Properties worth lakh destroyed

Fire breaks out at Ujjawal First Food Shop near Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati on Thursday afternoon following a cylinder blast, informed eye witnesses.
No loss of lives was reported during the incident.
Properties worth several lakhs damaged in the fire incident. 
Meanwhile, Fire tenders reached to the spot and brought the situation under control.



The door of the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati remained closed in the morning hours on Thursday due to annular solar eclipse. 
The solar eclipse, as per the Indian Standard Time, started at around 8:17 am and ended at 10:57 am.
Later, the door was opened for the devotees at around 12.30 pm in the afternoon.



KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi was presented before Special NIA Court on Thursday.

Earlier, a team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched a search operation at the residence of peasant leader and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi in Guwahati today. 

The team arrived at his residence in Nizarapar of Chandmari around 7 am. During the raid, the search team seized files containing documents relating to National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd (NHPC), the same company involved in the construction of Subansiri hydroelectric power project that KMSS leader, Gogoi has been opposing.
