In 1968, Argentine artist Nicolas Garcia Uriburu dyed the waters of Venice's Grand Canal green with a fluorescent dye during the 34th Venice Biennale in a stunt to promote ecological awareness.

A stretch of Venice's Grand Canal turned bright green Sunday, prompting police to investigate amid speculation about a stunt by environmentalists.
Gondoliers could be seen punting through the phosphorescent waters, while tourists took photographs of the green area, from the Rialto Bridge up and along part of the Canal.
The colour was first spotted by local residents, the Veneto region's president Luca Zaia said on Twitter.
"The prefect has called an urgent meeting with the police to investigate the origin of the liquid," he said.
The Italian fire service said it was helping the regional environmental protection agency take samples for testing.
It is not the first time the Grand Canal has been turned green.

"Our first priority as US government public servants is protecting and supporting American citizens," Melinda Pavek, US Consul General in Kolkata, said.
"My team and I are grateful for the support we received from the Government of India and the state of West Bengal which made his return possible," it said.
Pickett was commissioned into the US Marine Corps in 1913, going on to become one of the few Americans who served with distinction in both world wars, the release said.
After locating Pickett's grave at Singtom cemetery in Darjeeling with the help of the district administration and a private funeral service provider, the state government gave the approval allowing Pickett's remains to be sent to the US this month, it said.&nbsp;

Indian expats were among 15 Asians injured in a hit-and-run accident in Kuwait's Al Khaleej Al Arabi street, a media report said on Sunday.
The accident happened on Friday in Kuwait city when a group of Filipino cycling group had gathered to practice the sport, and was later joined by cyclists of Indian nationality as well, the Khaleej Times reported.
As the group was cycling in the main road, a vehicle ran over the group.
"The accident, which occurred on Al Khaleej Al Arabi street, caused several injuries to a group of asian cyclists that included Indian expats and who were using the main road. The driver of the vehicle initially escaped after running down the cyclists, and surveillance camera footage was being reviewed to find the perpetrator. However, later he turned himself in," the report said.

A baker finally got the bear to leave by honking a car horn, Williams said.
The four-footed thief was gone by the time police and officers from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection arrived.

According to a statement issued by the Saudi Embassy, the decision has been taken as part of efforts of the two countries to further strengthen relations.

Indian nationals will no longer be required to submit a police clearance certificate for obtaining a visa for travelling to Saudi Arabia, the embassy of that country announced on Thursday.
According to a statement issued by the Saudi Embassy, the decision has been taken as part of efforts of the two countries to further strengthen relations.
"In view of the strong relations and strategic partnership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and India, the Kingdom has decided to exempt the Indian nationals from submitting a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)," the statement said.
The PCC will no longer be a requirement for Indian citizens to obtain a visa for travelling to Saudi Arabia, it said.
The Saudi Embassy said it appreciates the contribution of over two million Indian citizens living peacefully in the Kingdom.&nbsp;

When the user asked the meaning of 'infrishing', GPT-4 apologised and admitted to it being a 'typographical error'. It went to say that the correct word would be 'infringing' and explained its meaning.&nbsp;
Soon Reddit users started weighing in on the reasons for the typo by GPT-4. While one said 'ChatGPT is just human', another said the chatbot is an overworked employee. A user reasoned that GPT-4's training data may be 'riddled' with typos.&nbsp;

China's first indigenously built passenger aircraft C919 on Sunday successfully completed its first commercial flight, marking its official entry into the civil aviation market.

China's first indigenously built passenger aircraft C919 on Sunday successfully completed its first commercial flight, marking its official entry into the civil aviation market as part of the country's bid to compete with Western rivals like Boeing and Airbus.
The first commercial flight of C919 from the eastern metropolis of Shanghai to Beijing was operated by the state-run China Eastern Airlines.
The plane carried 128 passengers on board. The flight time between Shanghai and Beijing was about two hours and twenty-five minutes, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
The single-aisle, twin-engined aircraft has 164 seats.
The plane was greeted with a water salute after touching down at Beijing Capital International Airport at 12:31 pm on Sunday, the report said.
The water salute ceremony is performed as a symbol of respect and honour for the aircraft, its crew, and passengers.
The C919 is China's first self-developed trunk jetliner in accordance with international airworthiness standards and owns independent intellectual property rights.
The C919 is developed by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) and it was granted a type certificate by the Civil Aviation Administration of China last September.
With a range of up to 5,555 kilometres, the C919 will take on Airbus and Boeing, the world's major aircraft manufacturers.
It will be a direct competitor to their A320 and B737 narrowbody jets, most commonly used for domestic and regional international flights, CNN reported.
"The first commercial flight is a coming-of-age ceremony of the new aircraft, and C919 will get better and better if it stands the test of the market," Xinhua quoted Zhang Xiaoguang, director of the marketing and sales department of COMAC, as saying.
The plane conducted a successful maiden flight in 2017.
In the following years, the C919 conducted several test flights in different locations to test its capabilities.
The C919 has gone through tests in various types of extreme natural environments including high temperature, high humidity, severe cold, gusts and freeze.
Its safety, reliability, and environmental protection performance have been comprehensively assessed, the Xinhua report said.
On December 9, 2022, the first C919 aircraft was delivered to its first customer, China Eastern Airlines.
After the delivery, the C919 jetliner completed its 100-hour aircraft validation flight process, comprehensively verifying its reliability with commercial operation in mind, the report said.
The C919 had received 1,035 orders from 32 customers by the end of 2022, according to the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai.
Officials say the entry of Chinese aircraft could reduce the reliance on Boeing and Airbus and could pose a competition to them in the international civil aviation market.&nbsp;
