'Oldie?': Here's why 95-yr-old Queen Elizabeth rejected award for elderly

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II recently turned down an award that celebrates the achievements of the elderly.

The 95-year-old longest serving monarch of Britain politely and cheekily turned down the "Oldie of the Year Award", saying "you are as old as you feel". In her reply to the Oldie magazine, the Queen added that she does not believe "she meets the relevant criteria to be able to accept", and hoped the magazine will find a "more worthy recipient".

Elizabeth is due to mark her Platinum Jubilee next year after 70 years as Queen.

Despite her husband Prince Philip's death in April aged 99, and her advanced age, the Queen has not retired from public life, and maintains a regular diary of audiences and appearances.

Her late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, was Oldie of the Year in 2011.

The Oldie of the Year Awards have celebrated the achievements of the older generation for 29 years.
