King Charles' 1st speech as British monarch: watch what he said on Queen Elizabeth, sons William & Harry

In his first speech as the British monarch, King Charles III on 9 September 2022 paid tribute to his mother Queen Elizabeth II, and pledged to carry on her legacy of service to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

In a personal message, Charles thanked his late "darling mama" for her "love, affection, guidance and example". The 73-year-old monarch added, "Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today."

Charles also named his son William as the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cornwall.
Both titles were held by Charles when he was the heir to the throne. The King also expressed love for his younger son, Harry, and his wife Meghan "as they continue to build their lives overseas".

Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-reigning monarch, died on 8 September due to old age.
