Kami Rita Sets New Record with 31st Everest Ascent.

Kathmandu, May 27 (PTI) - Renowned Nepalese Sherpa guide Kami Rita has reached new heights, quite literally, by ascending Mount Everest for the 31st time, surpassing his own record for the most successful ascents of the world's tallest peak. Kami Rita reached the 8,849-meter summit early Tuesday morning at around 4 am, utilizing the calm weather conditions to his advantage. The 55-year-old climber was leading the Indian Army Adventure Wing Everest Expedition, under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Manoj Joshi. “This remarkable accomplishment solidifies Kami Rita's status as the record holder for the highest number of ascents to the top of the world, a record that remains unparalleled,” stated Mingma Sherpa, chairman of Seven Summit Treks, the expedition organizer, as reported by the Kathmandu Post. "Kami Rita is safe and stable after his summit. He has commenced his descent and is en route back to base camp," added Mingma. "Once again, Kami has exhibited his unparalleled expertise and professionalism on the mountain. We are incredibly proud of his achievement and the ongoing legacy he is creating." In the past two years, Kami Rita has scaled Mt Everest twice each climbing season, bringing his successful ascent count to an impressive 30. Kami Rita's passion for climbing was ignited at a young age, leading to over two decades of scaling formidable peaks, shared Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Expedition Director at Seven Summit Treks. His mountaineering career began in 1992 as a support staff member on an Everest expedition. According to Dawa, from 1994 to 2025, Kami Rita has also successfully summited K2 and Mt Lhotse once, Manaslu thrice, and Cho Oyu eight times. Every year, hundreds of climbers strive to conquer Mount Everest from the Nepalese side. The iconic summit was first achieved in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepali Sherpa Tenzing Norgay.
