Jaishankar, Anand Discuss Bilateral Ties at G7 Niagara Meet

Jaishankar, Anand Discuss Bilateral Ties at G7 Niagara Meet

Ottawa, Nov 12 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in discussions with Canadian counterpart Anita Anand during the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Niagara. Jaishankar expressed optimism about advancing the bilateral relationship between India and Canada.

In a social media statement, Jaishankar congratulated Anand on successfully hosting the G7 meeting and noted the progress made with the New Roadmap 2025. “Looking forward to further rebuilding our bilateral partnership,” he remarked.

Anand, via a post on X, highlighted that their conversation covered “cooperation on trade, energy, security, and people-to-people ties.”

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) commented, saying the external affairs minister's presence at the G7 meeting underscores India's dedication to collaboratively addressing global challenges and amplifying the Global South’s voice in international discussions.

The outreach partner countries invited by Canada for the G7 meeting include Australia, Brazil, India, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, South Korea, South Africa, and Ukraine.

Canada recently announced that the G7 summit will tackle urgent global economic and security issues, such as maritime security, economic resilience, energy security, and critical minerals.

Jaishankar's visit to Canada follows Anand’s trip to India a month ago, during which both nations revealed a comprehensive roadmap to enhance collaboration in trade, critical minerals, and energy.

During their meeting, the foreign ministers agreed to initiate ministerial-level discussions on bilateral trade and investment soon, considering global economic dynamics and strategic priorities.
