Explainer: why Donald Trump fears he may be assassinated

More than two years after the Donald Trump administration ordered a kill on General Qassem Suleimani, the head of Iranian elite military force, in a US drone strike, the former President fears he may be killed in revenge

The revelations were made in 'The Divider', a book written by Peter Baker and Susan Glasser, a husband-and-wife team who write for the New York Times and the New Yorker. The book covers Trump administration’s Iran policy, from reluctant talks over the nuclear deal signed under Obama administration to US withdrawal from the deal in May 2018.

The book also mentions that Trump, in June 2019, had ordered a strike on high-value targets which could have killed 150 Irani nationals but later withdrew consent.

However, six months later he gave a go-ahead to the strike on Suleimani.
