DOJ Seeks Ghislaine Maxwell's Cooperation in Epstein Case Probe

The DOJ is seeking to interview Ghislaine Maxwell to gather potential evidence in the Epstein investigation, aiming to enhance transparency and pursue justice.

DOJ Seeks Ghislaine Maxwell's Cooperation in Epstein Case Probe

Washington, Jul 22 (AP) The Department of Justice is actively seeking an interview with Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted former associate of Jeffrey Epstein, as they investigate the financier's sexual abuse of underage girls. Maxwell is currently serving a significant prison sentence for her role in the crimes, according to a senior official on Tuesday.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated on X that if Maxwell possesses information about any individuals who committed crimes against victims, both the FBI and the DOJ are prepared to listen. Blanche also mentioned that President Donald Trump directed them to disclose all credible evidence. Discussions between Maxwell's legal team and the government have been confirmed by her attorney.

This outreach to Maxwell's attorneys is part of the Justice Department's effort to demonstrate transparency following backlash from certain Trump supporters over the refusal to release further records related to the Epstein investigation. As part of this transparency initiative, the DOJ, following directives from the Republican president, recently requested a judge to unseal grand jury transcripts from the case. The decision rests with the judge.

Epstein, who died by suicide in his New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial, was accused of sexually abusing numerous underage girls over more than ten years, with victims as young as 14. Prosecutors assert that he could not have perpetrated these abuses without the assistance of Maxwell, his longtime companion.

Despite a recent DOJ memo stating no additional charges were warranted in connection with Epstein's abuses, Blanche emphasized their commitment to pursuing justice and confronting uncomfortable truths. Directed by Attorney General Pam Bondi, he has communicated with Maxwell's team regarding her willingness to cooperate with prosecutors.

David Oscar Markus, Maxwell's attorney, confirmed ongoing discussions with the government and stated that Maxwell is prepared to testify truthfully. He also expressed gratitude to President Trump for his dedication to uncovering the truth in the Epstein case.
