The Uttar Pradesh government has implemented the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Ayodhya to streamline the city's traffic and improve road safety.
Under this system, modern traffic lights and high-tech surveillance cameras have been installed at key locations, enabling real-time monitoring and automatic issuance of challans for traffic violations.
According to an official statement Thursday, the Rs 47 crore ITMS project was launched in 2022 with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurating the first phase. So far, 20 major intersections in Ayodhya have been equipped with traffic lights, with strict enforcement of traffic rules underway.
The cameras installed under ITMS record violations such as jumping of red lights or riding without helmets, based on which digital challans are automatically generated. According to officials, a total of 36,555 challans have been issued under this system, which has significantly contributed to promoting road discipline in the temple town.
Besides managing traffic, the ITMS cameras have bolstered city-wide surveillance and security. The data collected is helping police in crime control and crowd management, officials said.
Challan operations began during the consecration ceremony (Pran-Pratishtha) earlier this year, and till date, fines totalling Rs 3.66 crore have been issued. Of this, Rs 12.35 lakh has already been collected, according to data provided by city authorities.
While lights have been installed at all 20 selected intersections, operations are currently active at only 14 locations. Due to ongoing construction work, signals at Shahadatganj bypass, Shanti Chowk, Saket Petrol Pump, Hanuman Gufa, and Devkali bypass are temporarily non-functional.
Ayodhya Municipal Commissioner Santosh Sharma said the ITMS has helped reduce road accidents, with no incidents reported so far since its implementation.
"Pilgrims and visitors are now benefiting from a safe and well-managed traffic system. Areas previously known for traffic congestion are now largely free from jams," he said.

"After India's action, when terrorists were killed, Pakistan's top military officers and politicians were seen attending their funerals. This shameless display should open the eyes of the world," he said while addressing a gathering here on the occasion of Maharana Pratap Jayanti.
He was referring to the Indian armed forces on Wednesday carrying out precise missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan under Operation Sindoor.
Adityanath added, "Pakistan is not merely protecting terrorism - it is directly involved in it. Its involvement has now become so clear that it will have to fight even for its own survival." Referring to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where tourists were targeted, the chief minister said India had resolved to give a strong reply.
"You all must have seen how barbarically our tourists were attacked. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a firm resolve, and our brave soldiers have given Pakistan a befitting response," he said.
Adityanath urged citizens to maintain national unity and support the armed forces during this "testing time." "Every Indian must act responsibly. If any miscreant tries to spread unrest, we must remain alert and expose any act that endangers national security," he said.
He also warned about misinformation being spread through social media platforms. "There will be attempts to spread rumours. But we must ignore such noise and follow the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. India will win - there is no doubt," the chief minister asserted.
Adityanath also said that Maharana Pratap Jayanti serves as an inspiration for standing united in difficult times.
"Let this occasion remind us to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our security forces and boost their morale," he said.&nbsp;

The move is part of a broader effort to strengthen the state's education system and deliver on the promise of fair job opportunities.
Addressing the newly appointed Assistant Teachers (LT Grade) and Lecturers, CM Adityanath praised the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) for conducting a clean and merit-based recruitment process. &ldquo;You must have seen how none of you had to use any external help in the entire selection process of the UP Public Service Commission,&rdquo; he said.
The Chief Minister further highlighted the government's commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi&rsquo;s employment mission. &ldquo;To achieve PM's Mission Rojgar's goal, our state government distributed 8 lakh appointment letters today through a fair and transparent selection process,&rdquo; he added.
CM Yogi also pointed out that the state government has made close to 40,000 appointments in the secondary education sector, including 32,000 posts in government-aided institutions. Over the past few months alone, more than 8,000 secondary teachers have been recruited.
Reflecting on past challenges, Adityanath said the state&rsquo;s education system had long suffered from corruption and negligence. &ldquo;There was a time when secondary education was struggling to survive. Before 2017, secondary and basic education had become infamous due to cheating, and there was hardly any hope left for improvement,&rdquo; he said.
He attributed the recent improvements in school infrastructure and learning conditions to initiatives like Operation Kayakalp. He also recounted earlier malpractices in examinations, where impersonators from outside Uttar Pradesh appeared in recruitment tests. That, he said, has changed with stricter monitoring.
&ldquo;Today, Uttar Pradesh is a new Uttar Pradesh. Today, there is no identity crisis for the youth of UP, and the state is developing in every field, creating a new image,&rdquo; he remarked.
Encouraging the newly appointed educators to uphold the values of integrity and excellence, the Chief Minister said, &ldquo;Since you have been selected through a fair and transparent process, the government also expects that you will make similar contributions to raise the level of secondary education in the state.&rdquo;
He concluded by reminding teachers of their critical role in guiding students toward their dreams. &ldquo;Every student has a goal, and achieving that goal is a moment of great joy, and it is the responsibility of educators to guide them with dedication and honesty,&rdquo; he said.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday extended its campaign to help food business operators register themselves and obtain licences till May 31 and said those without valid documents will not be allowed to operate.
Initiated in the first week of April by the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA), the campaign aims to bring all food-related businesses -- from street vendors to large restaurants and food manufacturing units -- under mandatory food safety compliance.
The objective of the campaign is to ensure that every food business operator (FBO) in both urban and rural areas registers and obtains a licence under the Food Safety and Standards Act. The step seeks to guarantee provision of safe and quality food to the consumers, while also curbing unregulated practices in the food sector, the government said in a statement.
"District-level food safety officers have been instructed to conduct special camps to facilitate on-the-spot registration and licensing for food vendors and restaurant owners. Strict orders have been given to ensure that no food establishment operates without valid documentation," it said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed that no food business should function outside the framework of food safety regulations. "Despite legal requirements, many small and large food operators are yet to comply with licensing norms," it added.
FSDA has launched intensive outreach efforts across all districts, holding registration camps and deploying food safety teams to assist businesses.
"The campaign is not only about compliance but also public health. Unlicensed food businesses pose risks to consumers and violate legal provisions. Therefore, authorities are ensuring full coverage -- from roadside vendors and dhabas to premium restaurants -- under the drive," the government said.
Thousands of new registrations have been completed during the campaign.
The food safety department has also warned that from May 31, strict action will be taken against food businesses operating without valid licences.
Food safety officers are tasked with enforcing compliance in every district, it added.

In a sweeping exercise to assess emergency preparedness, all districts across Uttar Pradesh, including the capital Lucknow, conducted coordinated civil defence mock drills on Wednesday evening under 'Operation Abhyas'.
The drills were held in the backdrop of the Indian military's precision strikes under 'Operation Sindoor' at terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, a response to the recent Pahalgam attack, in which 26 people, including a Nepali national, was killed.
In Lucknow, a large-scale demonstration was conducted after 7 pm at the Reserve Police Lines, where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath observed the drill.
He was joined by Cabinet Ministers Suresh Khanna and Swatantra Dev Singh, MP Brijlal, several MLAs, and Uttar Pradesh police chief Prashant Kumar.
The exercise included a citywide blackout, simulations of fire outbreaks and structural collapses, followed by rescue and response demonstrations by security forces, firefighters, disaster response teams, and volunteers.
While addressing the gathering, the Adityanath urged citizens to remain vigilant and fulfill their duties toward national security during such critical times.
"Every citizen must realize that in emergency situations, the country comes first. We must stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our security forces and strengthen their morale through our alertness, unity, and commitment," he said.
The nationwide mock drill, coordinated by the Centre, was held across various cities throughout the day to assess the country&rsquo;s civil defence preparedness.
The exercise in Lucknow was just one of many conducted in over two dozen cities across Uttar Pradesh, including Kanpur, Meerut, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, and Agra.
In Meerut, drills were conducted at educational institutions such as St. Joseph&rsquo;s, CCS University, Subharti University, and IIMT College, among others.
District Magistrate VK Singh oversaw the drills, emphasising the importance of educating citizens about necessary precautions during emergencies. Civil defence, police, NCC cadets, and students actively participated in the drills.
In Mathura, security at Mathura Junction railway station was heightened, and the police conducted inspections to ensure increased vigilance after the missile strikes.
Similar drills were held in Kanpur, Jhansi, Ballia, Barabanki, and other cities, with authorities focusing on emergency responses to scenarios like air raids, fires, and injuries.
In Gautam Buddh Nagar, mock drills were conducted at multiple public locations including schools, malls, metro stations, and private companies.
District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma said the objective was to ensure effective coordination among police, fire, medical, and security agencies to respond promptly to air attack scenarios.
&ldquo;The situation of air attack must be handled with prudence. We must avoid panic or stampedes and make every effort to stay safe. The drills are meant to raise public awareness through mock exercises, television, newspapers, and social media,&rdquo; the DM said.
A major drill was held at NTPC Dadri, jointly conducted by police, district administration, and security agencies. Demonstrations were also held at Delhi Public School, Kothari International, Indus Valley, Mihir Bhoj Inter College, and Amity International School, where students were taught safety protocols for air raids.
Police officials conducted similar exercises at high-rise buildings and other public places across the district.
&ldquo;Mock drills enhance emergency preparedness, improve response capability, and help minimise loss of life and property,&rdquo; district police officials said.
In his speech, Adityanath praised the Indian Armed Forces for their swift retaliation to the recent terror attack.
"The response given by our brave forces last night is a matter of immense pride. I also salute Prime Minister Narendra Modi for leading with resolve. This is a new India that gives a befitting reply to every misadventure," he said.
He referred to Operation Sindoor as an "emotional response" to those who dared to target Indian women&rsquo;s dignity.
"Those who touched the 'sindoor' of India's daughters had to lose their bloodlines in last night's strike," Adityanath said.
The Chief Minister further emphasized that mock drills like these are not only for disaster management personnel but also serve as a reminder for citizens to stay alert and be prepared for any emergency.
"We, the people, must not allow enemies or adversaries any opportunity to harm public life or property. Everyone -- from NCC cadets to school students to ordinary citizens -- must step up and understand their duties," he said.
He concluded his speech by reiterating his support for the armed forces, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Prime Minister Modi, while calling for continued vigilance and public awareness. He ended his address with three resounding chants of "Jai Hind."

In Vrindavan, traders distributed sweets and lit fireworks in bustling markets while chanting slogans in praise of the Indian Army and the Prime Minister.
"We are proud that our armed forces entered enemy territory and gave a crushing reply," said Alok Bansal, President of the Vrindavan Traders' Association.
In Saharanpur, Congress MP Imran Masood said, "They responded with courage while the terrorists struck like cowards." He added, "Operation Sindoor destroyed the camps in 25 minutes. This is the answer every Indian was waiting for." Prominent Muslim clerics and religious leaders in UP joined in welcoming the strikes.
Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board called the strikes a necessary and commendable step. "This will certainly weaken the morale of the terrorists." Maulana Yasoob Abbas of the All India Shia Personal Law Board saluted the armed forces and congratulated Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
"The country watched closely, and we're proud of this decisive action," he said.
From Bareilly, Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi of the All India Muslim Jamaat said, "India will go to any length to protect its people and sovereignty." In Muzaffarnagar, Imam Organisation president Mufti Zulfikar Ali said the military action fulfilled every Indian's demand for justice.
Barabanki saw celebrations led by members of the All India Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz, which distributed sweets. Similar sentiments echoed in Gorakhpur, where both Hindus and Muslims joined hands to celebrate.
In Etah's Limra International School, children waved the tricolour and distributed sweets, in an event led by school manager Mohammad Umar.
At the district collectorate, lawyers handed out sweets and recited poetry in tribute to the military's courage.
At a gathering in Baraut in Baghpat, patriotic slogans echoed along the Delhi-Saharanpur highway.
Gurukuls and temples also held events marked by singing of patriotic songs and flag-hoisting.
In Gorakhpur, the mood was electric as fireworks lit up the sky and tricolours fluttered at Shastri Chowk.
The event, organised by local groups, including Gurukripa Sansthan, coincided with Rabindranath Tagore's birth anniversary and was described as a fitting tribute to the nation's unity and courage.
Leaders of various mosques in Gorakhpur, including Mufti Meraj Ahmed Qadri and Maulana Mahmood Raza Qadri, publicly supported the army's action and prayed for the armed forces' continued success.
BJP MP from Meerut-Hapur Arun Govil described the strikes as the "beginning of a decisive response." "The cowardly attack in Pahalgam deserved a strong answer &mdash; and India has delivered one," he said.
Congress veteran Yashpal Singh asserted that wiping out terrorism was what's necessary. Harikishan Ambedkar, his party's spokesperson called the operation a "symbol of military discipline and bravery."

The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday approved a new policy aimed at establishing modern parking facilities in urban local bodies through private participation.
Talking to reporters after the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Urban Development Minister AK Sharma said the Cabinet has approved the implementation of the "Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation (Construction, Maintenance and Operation of Parking Spaces) Rules &ndash; 2025".
According to the policy, a Parking Management Committee will be constituted in every urban local body to identify suitable land parcels.
These parking facilities will be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, and will be equipped with electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and other modern amenities, he said.
The revenue generated through parking fees will be shared with the urban body concerned, Sharma said.
Private entities will be engaged through a five-year contract. The policy allows the development of parking infrastructure on both government and private land.
In the first phase, the policy will be implemented in 17 municipal corporations across the state.
Sharma said the policy has been framed keeping in view of rapid urbanisation, which has led to a steady increase in the number of vehicles and a corresponding shortage of parking space in urban areas.
&ldquo;The new policy aims to systematically manage parking demand, enhance parking infrastructure, and generate additional revenue,&rdquo; he said.

The facility will be instrumental in manufacturing BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, enhancing India's defense capabilities and reducing reliance on foreign imports.
Addressing a public gathering in Gorakhpur, he stated, "... The biggest terror state is Pakistan. Brahmos is a missile that targeted a Pakistani aircraft recently and it will now be manufactured in Lucknow... Weapons will be made that will shake the enemy..."
His remarks come in the backdrop of Operation Sindoor, an ongoing military campaign targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The BrahMos unit also supports the central government's Make-in-India initiative, with Lucknow emerging as a key defense manufacturing hub. CM Yogi urged the public to stay vigilant against anti-national elements, saying, "We are secure when our country is secure, and that happens when we all keep the nation first... Public should be aware of anyone who makes any statement that is anti-national and boycott them."
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya echoed these views, underlining the importance of the BrahMos unit within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor.
He described it as a historic leap in India&rsquo;s journey toward becoming a global superpower.
"Under the defence corridor, the historic unit for integration of the BrahMos missile is an important step towards making India a superpower. This is a huge achievement for PM Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, UP CM Yogi Adityanath and the double-engine Government, and the more it is appreciated, the less it is. I express gratitude to all scientists and engineers of DRDO," he said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said a glimpse of the valour of the BrahMos missile was seen during Operation Sindoor and if that was not enough, one should ask Pakistanis about it.
He also said the time has come to deal a crushing blow to terrorism and to achieve it, the entire country has to unite under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility here, Adityanath said, "What is the BrahMos missile? You have seen a glimpse of the valour of the BrahMos missile during Operation Sindoor. And if the glimpse was not visible, then ask Pakistanis about the strength of the missile." Adityanath said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared that any incident of terror will be considered as a war. "Until we completely crush terrorism, there will be no solution to this problem. The time has come to crush it and for this, entire India, in one voice, has to unite under Modi's leadership," he added.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said terrorism is a "dog's tail" that can never be straightened. "Terrorism will not follow the language of love. We have to give a reply to it in its own language. And in this direction, India has given a message to the world through Operation Sindoor," he said.
Adityanath congratulated Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the armed forces' personnel for the success of Operation Sindoor.
"It is necessary for any self-reliant country to achieve its goals on its own, instead of depending on other countries for its defence supplies. Israel is an example of this. It has achieved the goal of self-reliance in the field of security. It has forced its neighbouring enemy countries to face tough times," he said.
The chief minister said the Defence Manufacturing Corridor and the BrahMos missile are part of the target set for the country by Modi in 2014. He said in 2018, the prime minister had announced two defence corridors in the Union Budget.
"After the government was formed again at the Centre in 2019, Rajnath Singh, as the defence minister, organised the Defence Expo in Lucknow for the first time in 2020. He had also announced then that a production unit of BrahMos missiles will be set up in Lucknow," Adityanath said.
He said the target for Uttar Pradesh was to invest Rs 50,000 crore in six defence-manufacturing corridors and provide employment to one lakh youngsters.
"So far, along with the Defence Expo, we have signed 57 MoUs with companies from different parts of the country and the world, through which investments worth about Rs 30,000 crore are going to be made in the defence sector. We are moving ahead with the target of providing employment to about 60,000 youngsters," he said.
Drawing a comparison with the previous Samajwadi Party (SP) government in Uttar Pradesh, Adityanath said while there were no jobs before 2017 and people were migrating, the state is witnessing investments now.
"Earlier, companies had problems coming here because there was no policy and no security. Today, people are safe, their investments are safe and we are moving ahead with strength to meet the country's security needs. We have the required infrastructure now," he said.
The chief minister asserted that his government will facilitate any defence production-related programme.
On the occasion, a book, titled "Brahmand", on defence production was released.
Adityanath also handed over appointment letters to those selected by BrahMos Aerospace. A replica of the BrahMos missile was presented to the chief minister, according to an official statement.
Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, Rajya Sabha MP Brajlal, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and senior officials of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and BrahMos Aerospace were present on the occasion, the statement said.

Adityanath was reviewing development projects and law and order with senior officials in the Gorakhnath temple's assembly hall, according to a statement.
He assessed the progress of all major ongoing development projects in the district and directed that each be reviewed and monitored every 15 days -- first at the departmental level and then at the senior administrative level.
He emphasised that regular monitoring ensured accountability and instructed that projects where land acquisition issues had been resolved should be fast-tracked with focused, mission-mode construction efforts.
Laying stress on the need to prevent waterlogging, Adityanath ordered drains to be cleaned on time. He specifically directed to expedite the Gordhaiya Nala project, which is crucial to resolving waterlogging issues.
The chief minister also directed the officials to pay special attention to essential civic amenities.
He reiterated the state government's zero-tolerance policy against crime and criminals and called for intensifying police patrolling in urban and rural areas alike.
Adityanath laid stress on the need for improved traffic management, ordering designated parking zones be strictly enforced, including specified stands for tempos.

He remains in constant communication with the state government and has spoken with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath three times this morning, providing directives to help normalize the situation and facilitate relief efforts.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also reached out to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the wake of the incident at the Sangam during the Mauni Amavasya celebrations at the Mahakumbh Mela. Shah assured Adityanath of the Centre&rsquo;s full support in handling the situation.
After the Akharas initially called off the Holy Dip for the day, the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Ravindra Puri, confirmed that the Akharas will now resume their 'snan' today.&nbsp;
He emphasized that they are maintaining continuous communication with the Mela administration. Speaking to ANI, Puri said, "Our snan was postponed in the morning after a massive crowd gathered at the ghats. We tried to postpone our plan. Now that the crowd has reduced and the ghats meant for our snan are being vacated, it seems that all Akharas will be able to do snan today... We all, our all Mahamandaleshwars, Mandaleshwars, Naga Sadhus and devotees, will take a holy dip today..."
Puri further stated that the Akharas would still hold their traditional procession, albeit on a smaller scale. He also mentioned that the holy dip could take place even at night. "Our processions will be carried out as usual according to our tradition but will be on a smaller scale... We are in regular contact with the Mela administration... We have a lot of time and we are in no hurry. We can do snan even at night, as it is Mauni Amavasya today..." he added.
Following the stampede-like situation at Mahakumbh, the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad attributed the incident to the "spread of misinformation."&nbsp;
He remarked, "In the morning, misinformation was spread to create fear in the minds of people. And they succeeded. In the morning when we talked to everyone, we found that the reality was different and a lot of rumours were spread... I want to urge people to not run towards Sangam and take a dip wherever they find Ganga ji..."
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged devotees to take their holy dip at the nearest available ghat instead of converging at a single location.&nbsp;
He posted on X, "Dear devotees, come to Prayagraj. Take a bath at the ghat of Mother Ganga near which you are; do not try to go towards Sangam Nose. All of you should follow the instructions of the administration and cooperate in making arrangements. People are bathing peacefully at all the ghats of Sangam. Do not pay any attention to any rumours."
The incident occurred as an enormous gathering of devotees assembled at the Sangam Ghats for the 'Amrit Snan' on the occasion of 'Mauni Amavasya.'&nbsp;
This event marks the second Shahi Snan and is expected to attract between 80 to 100 million pilgrims. Other significant bathing dates during the Maha Kumbh include February 3 (Basant Panchami&mdash;Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).

The visit highlighted the state's rapid economic progress under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, as it works towards its goal of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy.&nbsp;
According to a statement from the Uttar Pradesh government, the state has become synonymous with enterprise, advancement, progress, and excellent law and order, solidifying its role as "the growth engine of the country."&nbsp;
The statement also emphasized the increasing interest of global institutions in partnering with Uttar Pradesh on this journey.
During his visit, Banga traveled to Lucknow and Barabanki district, where he attended various programs and meetings. He visited the Take Home Ration (THR) plant at Chinhat Block and later went to a beekeeping center in Rajauli, Barabanki, where he interacted with women beekeepers. In the evening, Banga took part in a reserved program before heading back to Delhi.
On Thursday, Banga also met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, where infrastructure and agriculture were key topics discussed.
In a related report, the World Bank highlighted India&rsquo;s significant reduction in extreme poverty over the past decade. According to their recent Poverty &amp; Equity Brief, the percentage of people living on less than USD 2.15 per day fell dramatically from 16.2 percent in 2011-12 to 2.3 percent in 2022-23, lifting 171 million people above the poverty line.&nbsp;
This progress reflects the success of Prime Minister Modi's poverty reduction efforts. Rural extreme poverty dropped from 18.4 percent to 2.8 percent, while urban poverty fell from 10.7 percent to 1.1 percent, narrowing the rural-urban gap from 7.7 to 1.7 percentage points.

Uttar Pradesh achieves record wheat procurement of over 9.26 lakh tonnes under CM Yogi Adityanath&rsquo;s leadership, with ₹2,045 crore transferred to farmers&rsquo; accounts and national procurement witnessing a 24.78% increase.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has once again achieved a significant milestone in wheat procurement.
As per an official release, more than 9.26 lakh metric tons of wheat have been procured from over 1.73 lakh farmers in the state as of May 8. This marks a notable increase from the 6.88 lakh metric tons procured during the same period last year.
This year, procurement has taken place from 173,381 farmers, while 446,725 have registered for the Rabi marketing year 2025&ndash;26. Over ₹2,045 crore has already been directly transferred into farmers' bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat for the 2025&ndash;26 Rabi season has been fixed at ₹2,425 per quintal, ensuring farmers receive prompt and fair compensation.
Wheat procurement in Uttar Pradesh began on March 17 and will continue until June 15. The process is being conducted through 5,852 purchase centres across the state.
On a national level, the wheat procurement drive for the 2025&ndash;26 Rabi marketing season is progressing smoothly. Against a nationwide target of 312 lakh tonnes, 256.31 lakh tonnes have already been procured for the central pool. This surpasses the previous year's procurement of 205.41 lakh tonnes by the same date, reflecting a 24.78% increase.
Five major wheat-producing states&mdash;Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh&mdash;have collectively outperformed last year&rsquo;s procurement figures. Their respective contributions stand at 103.89 lakh tonnes (Punjab), 65.67 lakh tonnes (Haryana), 67.57 lakh tonnes (Madhya Pradesh), 11.44 lakh tonnes (Rajasthan), and 7.55 lakh tonnes (Uttar Pradesh).
So far, 21.03 lakh farmers across the country have benefited from the procurement drive in the 2025&ndash;26 season, with total MSP disbursement amounting to ₹62,155.96 crore.
Officials credit this year&rsquo;s successful procurement to the proactive measures taken by the Department of Food and Public Distribution. These included early planning with state-specific action plans, awareness campaigns, farmer registration, preparation of procurement centres, and ensuring timely MSP payments.
&ldquo;The actionable items like awareness generation amongst farmers; registration of farmers; readiness of procurement centres; timely payment of MSP to farmers etc were followed up with the respective states on regular basis through review meetings so that any potential bottlenecks are addressed timely,&rdquo; the agriculture ministry stated.
In most cases, MSP payments were processed within 24 to 48 hours. Additional steps taken include implementing stockholding limits via the wheat stock portal, granting timely approvals for relaxed FAQ norms, and conducting field visits to ensure real-time assessment and intervention.
