"Washington has been ruled out due to onset on discomfort in his left lower rib area," a BCCI official told PTI.&nbsp;
Washington is the third Indian player to pick up an injury, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the ongoing series after suffering a side strain last week while Tilak Varma is unavailable for the first three T20Is against New Zealand due to a groin injury which required surgery.&nbsp;
India ODI captain Shubman Gill had given a an update on Washington following India's win on Sunday.&nbsp;
"Washington Sundar has a side strain and will go for a scan after the match," Gill said at the post-match presentation.&nbsp;

Sai Sudharsan, who is two years junior to Washington, spoke about how his "senior's" journey goaded him to work harder in order to achieve his goal of donning India colours. "I had played a few games against him (junior level). So, it's always special. We have looked up to him a lot and the way he went up and played for the country, it was real quick, I had that in my mind," Sai Sudharsan told BCCI.TV on sidelines of the intra-squad warm-up game with a beaming Washington by his side.
"He (Washington) did well in the IPL. Then he played for the country, so it was great motivation for me, that someone from Chennai (is playing for India). Knowing him and playing with him since we were young, it made me feel I also want to do it the same way. He was an inspiration," the stylish southpaw's admiration for Washington was there to be seen.
Washington, who has played 9 Tests, 23 ODIs and 54 T20Is for India, also spoke about the time when Sai Sudharsan was coming through the ranks as this talented cricketer from Chennai.
"Lot of my coaches and friends as well, constantly spoke about his (Sai Sudharsan's) growth in his cricketing career, always grown, only managed to get better," Washington said.
"Every time I watched him (Sudharsan) on TV, there was a lot to take from his skill-set, kind of work ethic, which definitely inspired a lot of kids," he said.

Suryakumar Yadav (47) and Hardik Pandya (21) had conjured up hope of a successful chase when they had a little partnership going but all hopes were dashed after both departed in quick succession.

"The way Washington bowled, batted and fielded, it was more like Washington against New Zealand than India against New Zealand. If he and Axar can continue the way they are, it will help the Indian cricket a lot." New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner also said it was "a bit of a shock" for everyone the way ball spun in the second innings. "But it was a great game and it was pretty tight at the end, we saw a lot of runs in the ODI series and it was nice to see the ball spin a bit more," he said.
The win was set up by Devon Conway (52) and Daryl Mitchell (59), who smashed commanding fifties.
"I don't think we were ever safe, 170-odd was nice with Daryl hitting a couple over and he batted extremely well, we knew we had a sniff with 180.
"It was nice to chip some wickets in the powerplay and we had troubled with that in the ODIs," added Santner, who had 18 dot balls in his 2 for 11.
"At the toss we were going to bowl because we know chasing is so good over here and especially with the dew. That's always the challenge (on captain using himself).
"You don't want to be seen doing the easy overs and stuff like that. We knew it was spinning in the powerplay and it was nice to chip one out." Mitchell, who was adjudged Player of the Match, for his sensational innings, said he trusted his skills and tried to keep it simple.
"It is nice to contribute to a score which helps us win a game. I thought the way the boys bowled at the end was pretty special. It is nice to take some momentum into the rest of the T20 series," he said.
"The guys who went in early said it was pretty difficult against spin because of the tacky nature. It was my job to build a partnership and then take the onus on myself after Conway's departure.
"For me it is being really present and really clear, keeping it simple as possible and trusting my skills, not every time it comes off in T20 cricket but it is always nice when you get a few off the middle." India and New Zealand will face off in second T20 on Sunday in Lucknow.

Indian pacer Deepak Chahar will not play any further part in India's ODI series against South Africa as he has been replaced by Washington Sundar due to injury.

In a statement, BCCI informed that Chahar had a stiff back after the third T20I against the Proteas and subsequently didn't feature in India's Playing XI in the 1st ODI.
The statement further states that the 30-year-old pacer will now head back to National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and will be monitored by the Medical Team.
This comes as a major blow for Team India's T20 World Cup preparations as well, given Chahar is a standby player for the marquee event.
Meanwhile, Sudar, who has also had injury issues in his short career so far, last played an ODI in February. He has played four Tests, four ODIs, and 31 T20s for India.

Washington Sundar's crucial innings of 25 in 19 balls for Sunrisers Hyderabad in Punjab Kings' 5 wicket loss in the last league match of the IPL 2022 has impressed ex-India coach Ravi Shastri.Sundar came in to bat at no. 6, when the team was struggling due to the regular loss of wickets. Sunrisers Hyderabad suffer a major blow as their lone spinner, Washington Sundar has been ruled out of at least the next 2 games after suffering split webbing in his right hand. Sundar injured his left hand during their win against Gujarat Titans. He was only able to bowl 3 wicketless overs and gave away 14 runs. Tom Moody, SRH's head coach informed that Washington has torn the webbing in his right hand, between his thumb and first finger. He further said that while it isn't a significant blow, they will monitor it over the next two-three days. It would take probably a week to settle down, Moody added. Sundar has been prone to injury, he had earlier missed the India-West Indies series in February due to a hamstring injury. Last year, as well, Sundar missed 2nd half of the IPL due to an injury in his finger. After a forgettable performance in the first game against Rajasthan Royals, Sundar has picked 4 for 63 in all the 11 overs he has played for SRH in 3 matches. SRH will next play KKR on 15th April and Punjab on 17th April.

Over the past few months, Sundar has been out of action due to his injuries. he first suffered a finger injury during IPL and after recovering from that he contracted COvid-19 due to which he could not participate in South Africa's tour of India. The 22-year-old left the Indian squad which is currently practicing in Kolkata to report to the National Cricket Academy on Tuesday. He will stay there for the next 3 weeks. KL Rahula and Axar Patel will also miss the series.
