In the tweet, which he made in 2018, the actor expressed his anger over the gangrape murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua. The actor shared an editorial cartoon that showed Goddess Sita telling Lord Ram, 'I&rsquo;m so glad I was kidnapped by Ravan and not by your bhakts!&rdquo; Posting the cartoon on his X account (then Twitter), the 12th Fail actor wrote, &ldquo;Half-baked potatoes and half-baked nationalists will only cause pain in the gut. #KathuaCasr #Unnao #Shame.'

The now-deleted tweet of the actor went viral on Tuesday, attracting massive criticism from netizens. Following the backlash, the actor took to issue an apology. 'In context to one of my tweets way back in 2018, I&rsquo;d like to say a few words: It was never my intention to hurt, malign, or disrespect the Hindu community.'
He continued, 'But as I reflect in hindsight about a tweet made in jest, I also realise the distasteful nature of it. The same could have been said without adding the cartoon, which was published in a newspaper. And I'd, with utmost humility, like to apologise to everyone who has been hurt.'
'As you all by now know, I hold all faiths, beliefs, and religions with the highest possible regard. We all grow up with time and reflect upon our mistakes. This was mine,' Massey concluded.

The forthcoming film is inspired by true events that took place on the Sabarmati Express on the morning of February 27, 2002, near the Godhra Railway station in Gujarat. For the unversed, on February 27, 2002, a bogie of the Sabarmati Express train leaving from Godhra station in Gujarat was set on fire by a frenzied mob. The trailer of &lsquo;Gaslight&rsquo;, starring Sara Ali Khan, Vikrant Massey, and Chitranagada, has been unveiled. The suspense thriller shows how a physically challenged girl, played by Sara, visits her home after years but finds out that her father is missing.
The trailer opens with Rukmini, played by Chitranagada, welcoming her stepdaughter Meesha, played by <a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/bollywood/sara-ali-khan-wishes-mom-amrita-singh-on-her-birthday-thank-you-for-always-being-my-rock-1675937548043">Sara</a>, to their ancestral home. She tries to hide the fact that Meesha&rsquo;s father, a king, has been murdered, but she soon finds out and tries to uncover the truth.
Vikrant Massey portrays the role of the King's personal assistant.
The actors have shared the trailer on their respective social media handles.
&lsquo;Gaslight&rsquo; will release on Disney Plus Hotstar on March 31.
