They called it a repeat of the 1992 World Cup but unlike that final 30 years ago, Pakistan didn't have the same fate this time around.
England ended Pakistan's fairy tale in the T20 World Cup 2022 as the Three Lions edged out the Men in Green by 5 wickets at the ultimate showdown in Melbourne. Victory saw England clinch their 2nd T20 World Cup, their first after the 2010 triumph.
Jos Buttler's decision to bowl first proved right as Pakistan found themselves 4 down at 85. Shaan Masood top-scored with 38 for Pakistan but 3 wickets by Sam Curran restricted the Men in Green to a below par 137/8.
However, Pakistan wrestled their way back into the contest thanks to some lethal bowling by Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf upfront. England lost 3 wickets within the powerplay overs but just like the 2019 ODI World Cup, it was that man Ben stokes once again who came to England's rescue. His unbeaten 52 helped the three lions cross the finish line with 6 balls to spare.

The Proteas then pulled things back in the middle overs on the back of Anrich Nortje's economical spell. However, Ackermann played a blinder in the death, slamming 41 runs off 26 balls to propel the Netherlands to 158-4 in 20 overs.

England knocked the hosts and defending champions Australia out of the T20 World Cup after they registered a 4-wicket win over Sri Lanka at Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday.
Opting to bat first, the Lankans got off to a powerful start and were going at a run rate of almost 10 runs until opener Kusal Mendis got out in the 4th over.
However, Pathum Nissanka continued from the other end with some lusty blows before he got out for 67 runs off 45 balls. After that, leggie Adil Rashid's economical spell and Mark Wood fiery spell triggered a collapse which reduced Sri Lanka from 118-4 in the 16th over to 141-8 in 20 Overs.&nbsp;
Chasing a modest 142-run target, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales gave the Three Lions a fiery start and stitched a 75-run stand before Hasaranga got the wicket of the English captain. Hales became Hasaranga's second prey and went back to pavillion, smashing 47 runs off 30 deliveries.&nbsp;
England then suffered a big collapse and lost three wickets for just 29 runs in almost 5 overs. However, Ben Stokes' used his experience to great effect and took the game to the last over. Stokes' unbeaten 42 runs eventually took the Three Lions home with two balls to spare and a place in the semis alongside New Zealand.

The African nation lost a close game against the UAE to finish third in their group, with Sri Lanka &amp; Netherlands qualifying at their expense.
Having won the toss, opener Muhammad Wasim hit an all-important fifty for the UAE side. With captain CP Rizwan too finally coming to the party with an unbeaten 43, the team from the middle east finished with 148 on the board.
In reply, Namibia's Top 6 failed to put up any sort of fight. In fact, they had lost half their side with just 46 runs on the board.&nbsp;
At 69/7, the game looked done &amp; dusted before the experienced David Wiese rose to the challenge. He put together a 70-run stand for the 8th wicket with Ruben Trumpelmann - a partnership that threatened to take the game away from UAE.
Wiese's departure for 55 though brought curtains down on Namibia's chances, with their 7-run defeat bringing an end to their T20 World Cup campaign, despite their win against Asian Champions Sri Lanka earlier.

The #T20WorldCup currently underway Down Under has once again drawn attention to 'drop-in pitches' that are being used at several venues across Australia.

Here's all you need to know about these drop-in pitches.

Using a drop-in pitch allows the stadium/venue to have a multi-purpose role. While the pitches are dropped in during the cricket season, these venues can be used for other sporting events as well as music concerts during the off-season.&nbsp;

'Drop-in pitch' - you must have heard the term while watching a cricket match that's taking place in Australia or New Zealand.
The T20 World Cup currently underway Down Under has once again drawn attention to these drop-in pitches.

So, what exactly is a drop-in pitch?
Like, the name would suggest, these pitches are not made at the venue itself but are dropped in. In fact, these custom-made pitches are prepared elsewhere, before they are put onto cement slabs and transported to their destination. These panels are then dropped a few inches deep into the ground, and the artificial turf is then rolled around it to level the surface.

Why are drop-in pitches used?
Using a drop-in pitch allows the stadium/venue to have a multi-purpose role. While the pitches are dropped in during the cricket season, these venues can be used for other sporting events as well as music concerts during the off-season.
For example - the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, Adelaide Oval and Eden Park in Auckland host a variety of sports, including football, AFL &amp; rugby apart from cricket. Once the cricket season is over, these drop-in pitches are taken out and away to allow other sporting events. Before the cricket season begins, they are once again put back in place.

Future of drop-in pitches These drop-in pitches are being used at Australian venues since 1996. Earlier, there were doubts about the quality since these pitches were made in steel casings and didn't have the natural variation that comes with the usual deterioration of the surface. In fact, they were deemed 'too flat' in the past.
But advances, both in terms of understanding the topography and the contents of the soil used, have enhanced the quality of the contest as well. It also allows the curator to modify the pitch as he/she deems fit, which would not have been possible with conventional tracks.
Due to these advancements, countries like Pakistan are now looking at using drop-in pitches at their venues to maximise their revenues through year-round events.

Having suffered a shock 55-run defeat to Namibia in their first match, Asian Champions Sri Lanka are back in the reckoning after beating the UAE by 79 runs.

UAE's Karthik Meiyappan bagged the first hat-trick of the T20 World Cup, and yet his side ended up on the losing side against Sri Lanka.
The leggie, bowling in the 15th over, picked up the wickets of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka &amp; Dasun Shanka off successive deliveries in Geelong.&nbsp;
Even as the hat-trick threatened to derail the Sri Lanka innings, opener Pathum Nissanka, who had completed his fifty a few balls before, ensured the Asian Champions at least got to a respectable total.
Chasing 153, the UAE top order was blown away by Dushmantha Chameera. The pacer picked up 3 wickets in just his first 2 overs to floor the team from the middle east.
And UAE just couldn't recover from there. Wickets kept falling in a heap. While Junaid Siddique's 109-metre massive hit did get the crowd going, Sri Lanka managed to bundle out their opponents for just 73, earning a 79-run victory.

Richie Berrington's side trounced the men from the Caribbean by 42 runs in Group B's qualifier on Monday in Hobart.
After being sent in to bat in overcast conditions, George Munsey was the star of the show for Scotland. His unbeaten 66, along with some decent quickfire contributions from the middle-order helped their team post 160 on the board.

In reply, the West Indies batters took their time at the start. While Kyle Mayers departed early, Evin Lewis &amp; Brandon King raised hopes with a 33-run stand.&nbsp;
In fact, the Windies were 53/1 at one stage before they lost the plot.
Wickets fell one after the other and from 53/1, the Men from the Caribbean found themselves tottering at 79/8.
And while Jason Holder did strike a few lusty blows towards the end, they were never really in the run-chase and were eventually bowled out for 118, giving Scotland a shocking 48-run victory.

The first game of the T20 World Cup 2022 proved to be an upset as Namibia stunned the Asian Champions by 55 runs in the 1st qualifying game for Group A.
