Then it's frozen and used. However, dermatologist Hannah Kopelman told Yahoo News that &ldquo;homemade sunscreens are generally not effective&rdquo; due to the lack of &ldquo;rigorous testing&rdquo; that over-the-counter sunscreens undergo.
Dr. Maris Garshick, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City, advises against DIY sunscreen due to uncertainties about its effectiveness and the level of protection it offers.

A study by the Queensland University of Technology finds aerosol sunscreens to be diluted and ineffective unless sprayed for more than a minute.
Based on the report which looked at nine&nbsp;aerosol sunscreens including those from Banana Boat and Neutrogena, the Cancer Council UK&nbsp;has warned against their use.&nbsp;
The researchers said the issue is of application and not brand-specific. Adding that it would be nearly 'impossible for anyone to look at the product and know how long they need to spray it for or how much product is in there.'&nbsp;
