Hours after a Delhi court framed charges against Aaftab Poonawala, Shraddha Walkar's father on Tuesday demanded that the trial starts at the earliest and hoped that the accused be hanged to death.
Poonawala is accused of strangling his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar to death and chopping her body into pieces.
Poonawala, however, denied the charges and demanded a trial. The matter has been posted for further proceedings on June 1.
"We feel that he should be hanged to death. I will be requesting the court to start the trial as soon as possible and June 1 might be a little late. We welcome the court's decision," Vikas Walkar told PTI.
He also said that on May 17, he will hold a one-day protest in Mumbai to demand a speedy trial in the case.
"We want our voice to be heard in Delhi," he added.
Additional Sessions Judge Manisha Khurana Kakkar said prima facie a case for offences under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) was made out against the accused.
The Delhi Police had filed a 6,629-page charge sheet in the case on January 24.
Walkar was allegedly strangled by Poonawala on May 18 last year, following which he sawed her body into pieces and kept them in a fridge for almost three weeks at his residence in South Delhi's Mehrauli.
He scattered the pieces at different places in the national capital to avoid getting caught.&nbsp;

A Delhi court is likely to pronounce its order on framing charges against Aaftab Amin Poonawala today, accused of strangling his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar and chopping her body into pieces.
The Delhi Police is also scheduled to file on Saturday its reply to an application of Walkar's father before the court, urging it that her remains be handed over to the family for last rites as required by tradition and culture.

The 6,629-page charge sheet against Poonawala in the Mehrauli murder case states that after she left, he would reposition Shraddha body. Poonawalla brought a fridge so that he could dispose of the body parts more easily.
Poonawalla allegedly cut Shraddha's body into 17 pieces, dividing her hands, legs, and other body parts into three pieces. He initially deceived the police by claiming that he crushed and disposed of Shraddha's body in a stone grinder.

The body of Shraddha Walker was cut up into pieces with a saw, an autopsy of her bones has revealed, according to NDTV. The autopsy of the bones was carried out at AIIMS, Delhi this month. Walker was allegedly murdered by her live-in-partner Aaftab Poonawala, in May last year at their rented flat in Mehrauli. He had chopped up her body into 35 pieces and later dumped them across the city over several days. Earlier, a DNA test had confirmed that hair and bone samples recovered by the police belonged to Shraddha Walker.

According to police sources, he said that he told Tunisha that their relationship was not sustainable due to their different religions and age gap. Over allegations that there was delay in registering Shraddha Walkar's complaint against her live-in boyfriend Aaftab Poonawala, Maharashtra deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday announced that a Special Investigation Team will probe the case.
Making the announcement in the state legislature, Fadnavis said the state government would request Union Home Minister Amit Shah to try the alleged murder case in a fast-track court,
The BJP leader also informed that the SIT comprising senior police officers will also investigate if there was any political pressure on Shraddha to withdraw her complaint.

Fadnavis, however, added that prima facie there wasn't any political pressure on the deceased to take her complaint back, pointing that there a month's gap between filing and withdrawal of the complaint.
He reiterated that the SIT will look into what all action was taken by the police during that time.

'Bail plea was moved erroneously', says Aaftab in an email; Delhi court to hear plea on Dec 22

"I would like the counsel to talk to me and then withdraw the bail plea," Poonawala said, replying to an inquiry by the judge on whether he intended to withdraw the application.

Aaftab Amin Poonawala, accused of strangling his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar and chopping her body into pieces, Saturday informed a court that he had signed on the vakalatnama but was not aware a bail petition would be filed on his behalf.
The accused appeared before Additional Sessions Judge Vrinda Kumari through video-conferencing.
"I would like the counsel to talk to me and then withdraw the bail plea," Poonawala said, replying to an inquiry by the judge on whether he intended to withdraw the application.
The judge said the bail application would be kept pending and only after the accused meets the counsel, it would be decided whether the plea would be pressed or not.
The court posted the matter for further proceedings on December 22.

In a major breakthrough in the grisly murder of 27-year-old Shraddha Walkar, police received the forensic and DNA reports related to the case.
According to an NDTV report, the DNA from the bones recovered from Delhi forests match that of Shraddha's father, Vikas Walker.
Aaftab Poonawala, who is accused of brutally killing his live-in partner and then disposing off her body parts led the investigative team to the spots from where the cops recovered some bones.&nbsp;
However, the cops decided to get the DNA analysis done to confirm of the bones belonged to the victim.&nbsp;

Notably, during interrogation, Poonawala, 28, confessed to killing Walkar and chopping her body parts into 35 pieces and disposing them of in various parts of the national capital, police had said.
Following his confession, police scanned through various forest areas and even a pond in Madangir was emptied to look for Walkar's missing body parts. Though police have recovered more than 13 body parts, suspected to be that of Walkar, from forest areas of Mehrauli and Gurugram, only a DNA analysis will ascertain that they belonged to the victim.

Aaftab Poonawala, who is in judicial custody for allegedly killing his live-in partner, has asked Tihar jail authorities to give him novels and books, officials said on Saturday.

"We are taking care of the inmate as per protocols. He has now asked for English novels and other books. He said he wants to read more and indulge in literary activities.

He will be provided more books later," said the jail official. &nbsp;Poonawaala had undergone polygraph test and narco analysis test recently at the forensic science lab and Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital. &nbsp;Poonawala was arrested on November 12 and sent to five-day police custody, which was further extended by five days on November 17.
The court on November 26 sent him to judicial custody for 13 days. 'Had no inkling of body parts stored in house', says Aaftab Poonawala's latest partner| Shraddha case

She also informed that Aaftab gifted her a ring. As per her, Aftab had gifted a fancy artificial ring on October 12.

In another development in the Shraddha murder case, Aaftab's most recent girlfriend was in shock after hearing about the horrific act by him and said that she had no clue that human body parts were kept inside Aaftab's Chhatarpur residence when she visited there twice after the murder.
She also informed that Aaftab gifted her a ring. As per her, Aftab had gifted a fancy artificial ring on October 12.
As per sources, this ring belonged to Shraddha. The police recovered the ring from Aaftab's new partner and recorded her statement. As per reports, Aaftab's partner is a psychiatrist by profession.
As per a statement given to the police, this friend informed that she had come to Aftab's flat twice in the month of October, but she had no inkling of Shraddha's murder or about the presence of human body parts in the house. Aftab never looked scared, she said.
She also informed that he often used to tell her about his Mumbai home. Aaftab and his new girlfriend came in contact through an online dating app.

As per police, Aftab was in contact with about 15 to 20 girls through different dating sites. During the course of the investigation, the police traced his Bumble app record and found out about a girl who had come in contact with Aftab through the app on May 30, about 12 days after Shraddha's murder.
Aftab's psychiatrist friend said that his behaviour seemed normal, even very caring and she said that she never felt that his mental state was not ideal. She also informed that Aftab had a collection of different varieties of deodorants and perfumes and he often used to give her perfumes as gifts.

Poonawala's counsel said that the police had filed an application for taking Aaftab Poonawala to Forensic Science Lab, Rohini, on December 1 and December 5, which was allowed by the court.

A court here on Tuesday allowed Delhi Police to conduct a narco test on Aaftab Amin Poonawala, Poonawala&rsquo;s counsel said.
Abinash Kumar, Poonawala's counsel, said that the police had filed an application for taking Poonawala to Forensic Science Lab, Rohini, on December 1 and December 5, which was allowed by the court.
Police had earlier said that the narco analysis would be conducted at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini by a team of experts from the FSL.
On Monday, Poonawala had come under an attack by some weapon-wielding men at the FSL when he was in a police van.
A video of the attack that surfaced on social media showed a policeman whipping out his pistol to warn the attackers to back off.
Since the incident, security outside the FSL, where a series of sessions of polygraph test on Poonawala has taken place, has been beefed up.

Call centre employee Shraddha Walkar had two years ago complained to police in Maharashtra that her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala, who is accused of brutally murdering her, tried to kill her and she feared he would cut her into pieces and throw her away, an official said on Wednesday.
In the complaint letter dated November 23, 2020, Walkar also alleged that Poonawala used to beat her up and his parents were aware of it.

Walkar was a native of Vasai town in Maharashtra's Palghar district.
In her complaint to Tulinj police in Palghar in November 2020, Walkar alleged that, "Poonawala has been abusing me and beating me up." "Today he tied to kill me by suffocating me and he scares and blackmails me that he will kill me cut me up in pieces and throw me anyway. It's been six months he has been hitting me. But did I not have the guts to go to police because he would threaten to kill me," Walkar said in the complaint.
"His parents are aware that he beats me and that he tried to kill me," she told the police.
Walkar also said in the letter that Poonawala's parents knew about them living together and they visited them on weekends.
"I lived with him till date as we were supposed to get married anytime soon and had the blessing of his family. Henceforth, I am not willing to live with him so any kind of physical damage should be considered coming from him as he has been blackmailing me to kill me or hurt me whenever he sees me anywhere," she stated in the letter.
On Tuesday, Poonawala underwent a polygraph test after a court gave permission to the Delhi Police, while investigators found more evidence, including blood stains in the flat where both lived.
Poonawala told a Delhi court on Tuesday that he acted in the "heat of the moment" and that it was not "deliberate", according to Abinash Kumar, the lawyer representing the accused.
Kumar later said after speaking to Poonawala that he "never confessed in the court that he killed Walkar".
Sources said a questionnaire was prepared for the polygraph test so that the sequence of events in the gruesome killing can be ascertained.

Terming it a 'publicity interest litigation', the Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed with costs a PIL seeking directions for the Shraddha Walkar murder investigation to be transferred from Delhi Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The court, however, did not specify the cost amount.
A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad said it was a publicity interest litigation and not a single ground was made out.
The plea alleged that the presence of media and public in places of recoveries amounts to interference with evidence.
It alleged that Delhi Police had revealed every detail to the media and public persons regarding each step of its investigation and this is not permitted under the law.
Aaftab Amin Poonawala, 28, allegedly strangled Shraddha Walkar and sawed her body into 35 pieces which he kept in a fridge for almost three weeks at his home in south Delhi's Mehrauli locality. He then dumped the body parts across the city over several days in the dead of the night.
Police has said the couple frequently argued over financial issues. It is suspected a fight between them resulted in Poonawala killing 27-year-old Walkar on the evening of May 18.

A plea has been moved in the Delhi High Court seeking a transfer of investigation in the Shraddha murder case from Delhi Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The plea, which has been moved by a practising lawyer of Delhi, stated that investigation by Delhi Police, in this case, cannot be efficiently carried out due to administrative/staff paucity as well as lack of sufficient technical and scientific equipment to find out the evidence and the witness as the incident had taken place about six months back.
It further stated that the minute and sensitive details of the investigation by the Delhi Police have been revealed to the public through the media. The presence of media and other public persons at the place of recoveries, court hearings etc. of any accused amounts to their interference with the evidence and witnesses in the present case.&nbsp;

A CCTV footage in the Shraddha murder case was released on Saturday in which the accused Aaftab Poonawala can be seen carrying a bag outside his street.
The video is said to be from October 18 as per news agency ANI.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police investigating the gruesome killing of Shraddha Walkar searched for the murder weapon at a forest here using a metal detector on Saturday, but returned empty-handed after one-and-a-half-hours, sources said.
The search at the forest in DLF Phase 3 area began on Friday after the police suspected that accused Aaftab Amin Poonawala, 27-year-old Walkar's live-in partner, disposed the weapon here after allegedly killing her.
On Friday, the police had recovered some items from the forest in a black polythene bag. Police sources in Delhi said they were some of Walkar's body parts and that her head is still missing. This, however, could not be confirmed.
Meanwhile on Saturday, the police recovered a sharp object from Poonawala's house at Mehrauli in South Delhi and it will also be sent for examination to find out whether it was used to chop Walkar's body.
They also took possession of all the clothes in the house and they will be sent for forensic examination. However, these do not include the clothes Poonawala and Walkar wore on May 18, the murder day, police sources said.
Aaftab's office colleagues, whom Shraddha used to call and narrate her ordeal, are likely to be interrogated next, they said.
"Delhi Police has taken possession of all the clothes present in Poonawala's house. These include Walkar's clothes too. They will be sent for forensic examination," a source in the police department said.
Poonawala allegedly strangled Walkar and sawed her body into 35 pieces which he kept in a 300-litre fridge for almost three weeks at his house before dumping them across the city and outside over several days past midnight.
The police have so far recovered 13 body parts, which are mostly skeletal remains. Poonawala is currently being taken to different locations in south Delhi to locate more body parts, the source said.
The Delhi Police had on Friday sent teams to Maharashtra, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh to hunt for evidence in the case.

According to officials, after leaving Mumbai, Walkar and Poonawala had travelled to several locations, including Himachal Pradesh, and police are visiting these places to ascertain whether any development during those trips triggered Poonawala to kill his partner.
